Intel® Core Duo Processor T2400 (1.83GHz) vs T2500 (2GHz)...would spending an extra $200 for the T2500 make a $200 difference. Will I see better performance or should I use the $200 for another gig of ram? Also I need to ask a dumb question. What make these chips better then my P4 2.4 ghz from 3 years ago? I would have thought that a 2.4ghz chip would be faster for gaming then a T2500 2.0 ghz? Like I said ...dumb question.![]()

Can't beat my questions when it comes to dumb. Asked a similar question, and the consensus was that hard drive speed/more ram was worth the extra cash.

Balancing it out between the memory HD and CPU like Supra said would be best.
It's simply newer technology and newer terminology. You can't judge CPUs by just GHz anymore. -
Don't pay for any of those upgrades. You can buy another stick of RAM for ~$100 and you could get a 7200 RPM drive for around the same. Upgrades are where the companies really get you. No, 200MHz more is not worth it.

Most processors now-a-days are designed pretty well and its getting to a point where GHZ doesnt matter much between them. Its not worth it to upgrade not even 200mhz for that much.

$200 for the T2500 is over $1/MHz. That is not worth it in the least as stated. The only way you'll notice a difference between the T2400 and the T2500 is if the processor is at 100% usage, doing a rendering/encoding/mathematical application, because there clockspeed matters. In gaming, the GPU is the most important, followed by the RAM and CPU. Any Core Duo processor will be excellent for gaming purposes. 2GB of RAM is worth it for the latest games.
I'd go for the RAM upgrade. -
Thanks guys for spending my money wisey...more mem and HD it is!

Looks like I can get a Dell E1705 with 7800 video card for under $1400, it comes with 1gig of ram. Does anyone know if it uses all the memory slots? How many does it have and are they used up?
Thanks! -

It's 2 x 512MB. It looks like all the configurations are two sticks - dual-channel means two sticks. I customized an E1705 and didn't see any options for a single Dimm.
Make sure you use the coupons, they're normally posted in the Tech Deals on the front page.

Thanks for the reply, this means i'll have to toss the 2x 512 and get 2x 1gg to up grade to 2gigs...right?

Thats correct.
