I am trying to repair my laptop's motherboard (Lenovo Y510P) that had some milk spilled onto it. When I took the heatsink off the gpu (GTX 750m) and cpu, I saw there was a thin plastic layer surrounding the chip. Lots of thermal compound was under it, so I removed this thin layer to clean it. It's shown below, removed.

And here is the heatsink (GPU connects to the top right pad)

After some google searches, it seems this plastic layer is to prevent shorting from the heatsink to the small components that surround the chip. If I reattach the heatsink without this plastic, is there going to be a risk of shorting? The plastic is now non-sticky and torn, so I'm trying to think of the best way to do this without risk of frying the 750m.
