Its out, sitting at $49.99
This game looks very interesting a mix between GTA & Assassins Creed IMO.
I'll be sitting back and waiting for one of those steam game sales for this one I think.
If you have it or get it be sure to come post your thoughts on the game.

We've had a few screenshots from some users who already own the game on this forum, it looks a bit odd though with the main character spawning tentacles to take down helicopters...
-
I wouldn't wait for this game to go down in price. It is such a great game. It is cheap on Amazon but I am in the UK so it will vary.
I just can't believe how many different things are going on at the same time, helicopters shooting at me (I retaliate by throwing cars at them), zombies trying to kill me, people screaming, taxi's driving and cars crashing, a huge army shooting and fireing missiles at me and there were three huge monsters that looked like something from Rez Evil (on steroids) running up buildings to kill me yet my frame rate was always smooth on high at 1680 X 1050.
I am proud to spend money on a game like this, we need more developers like them. -
Has anyone found a demo? I've Googled for one, and there isn't one on Steam...
-
I got the game yesterday after having it preordered over the net (although not on Steam) and I've got to say that it has to be the most fun I have had playing any game over the past year, or possibly even 2. I also don't think it would be much of an exaggeration to say its the best open world game I've ever played. I mean compared with the likes of GTA its infinitely more interesting and fun to play.
I played it yesterday for 7 hours total and I just kept wanting more. I played it for an hour or 2 at a time before quitting to do other stuff and I couldn't help the urge to go back for more.
The main missions are amazing, with a fair variety, from luring a bunch of infected into a military base in order to trap them to destroying 10 sensors around the city to stop the military discovering your sisters safehouse, or sabotaging sensors to try and lure a target so you can "question" him. The side-missions inbetween the main quests are a bit of a mixed bag - from the not so much fun checkpoint runs to having to the interesting change of pace that is having to infiltrate military bases to consume the personnel within, thereby upgrading your weapon skills.
The EP (experience point) system is alot of fun aswell, where you constantly collect points through achieving goals, killing or evading enemies, and then spend those points on new skills and upgrading your current ones. It gives you a good reason for messing about inbetween missions, luring out the military and then destroying or evading the many strike teams dispatched to take you down. It takes a while to collect enough points for the big money skills so its a kind of grinding, only one where you want to do it.
Watching the city evolve as you play through is a fun experience aswell - from the bustling Manhattan you see at the start to the infected nightmare its slowly becoming, complete with screaming crowds.
I've played 7 hours so far but I'm still only a third of the way through the games 31 main missions, although I've had a hunger for following the main story so I'll no doubt slow down and do a bit more mucking about inbetween missions from now on.
It is an awesome game, definately my game of the year so far, so if you like open world games, or just having fun, its definately worth the full retail price. -
I have to agree, it is definitely one of the best open world games I have ever played too. What I have noticed is that it has really high re playability rates.
I have been playing the game just to benchmark the fps and core usage found that I had no problems doing exactly the same mission a few times over because I didn't get far enough to save. This game reminds me of what the whole point of gaming is supposed to be in the first place, pure fun!
I think so many developers have forgotten all about the fact that games are supposed to be fun and you get bogged down with too much realism, micro management or a too high learning curve etc.
This game seems to get something right in the balance that so many others have simply failed at in my opinion.
I am also thrilled that it runs so well on my new NP8662 laptop since this is exactly what that laptop is all about, to be able to play great games like prototype on high settings. The game is clearly made to be able to play pretty well on lower spec systems too which is more than can be said for many other titles. -
Ok for confusion of what this game actually is here ya go I have been waiting for like 10months for it to come out! [PROTOTYPE] is a open world game where You play as the main character Alex Mercer with no memory and you start out in a autopsy it gets going pretty good from the beginning not knowing who You are or What you are gets interesting, Alex has many powers Shapeshifting taking the appearance of other people making his arms into claws,a shield,a whip, hammer fists,a giant blade and a few other things it gets fun, Its set in Manhattan where a viral infection gets spread by the Military(of course) and theytry to containment and the city itself becomes infected the buildings turn into giant hives that spit out infected humans and animals the enviroment is destroyable, blown up,torn apart or whatever you feel like!. Well I hope this helped you guys heres some pics and vids.
Shapeshifting my favorite!

Got it, playing it, need to stop and get sleep have to be at work in 2 hours.
Its not as easy as people say it is I dont think, that fight with the hunters was pretty challenging.
Looks like my guess is close to what it really is, I think when I said its a mix of Assasins creed and GTA that it came true.
Also reminds me of Mad World some and various other run around beat em up games.
Assassins Creed started some kind of hoodie trend when it comes to high flying assassins.
I forget off the top of my head the other game that copied it, but it had an identical looking guy, and even Left 4 Dead, the hunters look like that. -
Yeah I loved that game. I tried it on PC but decided to buy it on 360 because I couldn't max it, even though it was $10 more.
-
I can't decide if I should get it for pc or for my ps3......my pc is an asus g50vt a1
and I might wait for infamous to come out becuase both look similiar and i don't want to buy both -

I don't know how different the NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS is to my GTX 260M apart from the extra VRAM but I get good performance and although I have a Quad, it is still only 2,0 Ghz and you have 2.5 Ghz which is enough for that game.
Infamous does look really similar but Prototype is so good, I wouldn't miss out on either and will also get Infamous when it comes out on the PC. -
hmm... I'm playing on my C2D T9300 @ 2.7GHz + 8800M GTX ( 512mb) and it runs the game maxed out fine on 1680x1050.
Anyway there's a thread here which may include a solution for those who couldn't select the resolution they want. -
-
Any idea how it would perform on a nvidia 9500?

Another problem I am hearing about is a mouse lag/suttder issue similar to what people had in Dead Space.
I fixed Dead Space by turning off V-Sync and using DX Overider from RivaTuner, that fix may work here, but the fix I found posted for it is:
turn off v-sync and use a program called fps limiter.
I didn't really notice any mouse issues when I played earlier today but i will try it out and post back to see if the mouse is better. My movement seemed a bit off but my cursor and things never had any issues.
Apparently this issue is supposed to happen when your in the 60fps+ area. -
-
lol, I have no idea what was causing people to become restricted to low resolutions then. I assumed it was their vram but it must have been something else. As mentioned before, it is pretty simple to fix anyway.
-
Have any one been playing Prototype recently? Because I just now notice how there are actual real life ads in that game like an ad for District 9 being out on dvd and Jersey Boys CD. I know the game came out months ago has anyone notice this?
-
Well I don't have that game but it wouldn't surprise me as madden 10 incorporates ads on the scoring banner.
-
i never saw them but i also didnt get it from steam
Prototype - Now on Steam
