Prototype with keyboard

Should I buy a 360 controller for prototype, or can I get a good experience with keyboard and mouse?

Hey man help me out with one problem.
In the first level after destroying tanks, I need to devour that captain. It says devour and catch that officer by neck. Whats the button to devour him as I couldnot see any button related in the config?

E to grab him then right click to devour him.

Yikes. This looks a little gruesome. That looks like a Far Cry 2or GTA type map in the corner. Is the game similar?

 

It's similar to GTA coz it's an open world with missions. Lots of different combat moves & powers to be unlocked by gaining experience.

I would really appreciate fully destructible environment... Or at least, partial. How's the game? It seems to me like a repetitive massacre game.

 

The only problem i have with the keyboard is my pinky finger starts to hurt from holding down shift so much.

I tried but couldn't repeat it, but earlier i sliced one guy right down the middle. When i looked at one half of his body on the ground he still had a scared/shocked look on his face.

Yea it gets a bit repetitive, but it's really fun just messing around and earning xp to unlock new cool tricks imo... If you like Devil May Cry you'll like this game a lot.

I think I might just buy this game because I like the developers who made it. Im just wondering how well the game will run on my system. But after seeing the video review for it on IGN it look like Hulk Ultimate Destruction with this guy skin over hulk, because the same basic combat moves are done in hulk and the menus for getting new moves is the same as well. Its not a bad thing, because I played that Hulk game many times and well as the simpsons game they made. Maybe when the price drop ill pick it up.

 

You can solve this problem by enabling "Sticky Keys" in the Accessibility Center. There is an option where hitting shift twice locks it down.

wow this game lags like a ****h!!!
had to lower to 800*600 to at least get 20 fps
on a 8600mgt 2.0 core 2 duo

 

i found that one earlier, it was pretty cool.

I'm running it smoothly (dips in fps when there's a lot of explosions going on, but it doesn't lag much and is perfectly playable) at medium graphics, resolution 1280x800. Same graphics card, pretty much.. 9600M GS DDR2... and the fan isn't even spinning as loudly as when I play TF2, so i think i could up the graphics a bit more.. (anyone know if its possible to go to advanced graphics settings, and tweak it up?) but I'm fine as it is.

Maybe it's my processor? T9400, 2.53ghz

Having Played both Infamous and now Prototype... I must say yes there are ALOT of similarities (Infection, Amnesia, double crossing ) However both were being developed at the same time, and offer up their own take, Prototype however does have alot more upgrade options which is cool, but infamous was awesome too, it's really sad becuase originally infamous was supposed to allow you to create any type of superhero you wanted based on how you played (Fire, Lighting, Strength BLah da blah da blah) They just opened too ambitious I guess

 

And your Forceware version is?

 

definatly a processor game

while in game my gpu only hits 50 c and i have to run at 800 by 600 at low and low to get 20 fps




and kevin jack its not a driver issue. Im running the lastest 186 with similar specs (see sig) same problems

 

Please be more specific with you framerate numbers, so we can see just how much better you're running this.

Run FRAPS for a while.

EDIT: wow I followed their instructions here ( http://forums.activision.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=1938 disabled a few HID devices)
and got myself an extra 15-20 average fps increase!!!
(average fps went from around 30fps (high quality/medium shadows 1680x1050) to 45-50fps @ max settings 1680x1050!!!) Yay!

I'm not sure why yours don't have the HID devices though...

 

Many people said that they had no HID (in the thread you posted) so i guess "it happens"

 

So is the game any good. What do you guys think about it. I am thinking about buying this one, but im now sure yet.

 

It will be very interesting to see how this performs on the Q9000 along with the GTX 260M. I heard there is a bug where it doesn't use your GPU sometimes causing slow frames. Has anyone tried running this at 1680 X 1050?

I can answer my own question now since I just tried it. I have this game at 1680 X 1050 resolutions, medium settings and I get 60 fps, with lots of action I get 40-50 fps and I notice that all cores are being used extensively. I notice 60-70% being used on all cores even when I am standing still.

Performance is stutter free so far. Will add this to my performance thread!

Yea game seems to be running pretty nice. 1920x1200 maxed settings with no AA @ 35-40 fps. Didnt see any difference when i disabled the HID's.

 

wow the whole HID thig gave a real fps boost
now i can actually play at 1024*768 at atound 30average..
goes a bit lower in the fighting scenes.. still very playable

What is HID? all I know is I have a Quad 2.4 ghz and a 8800 GT which is by no means a new card... And I get 40-50+ at all times, and that is with Fraps on, and some browsers open...

 

hid is a human interface device, basically all the usb devices u plug in
i think it might have to do with [prototype] detecting what kind of controller ur using on the fly so it might scan through you HID devices for inputs

 

Oh, I thought it might ahve something to do with Prototype having Quad support
