    Hi everyone

First I want to say that Im 40-60% disappointed with my 8600m-GT 256MB...

I really thought it would be much better,I know it can produce graphics better than that of a PS2 or an Xbox1 (which I liked), But I needed a graphics card which can produce next gen graphics...

    Aaaaanyway

If i want to upgrade,Which one of the following is possible to:

    1-8600m-GT 512MB (ist worth it?)
    2-8700m-GT (will i notice a big difference?)
3-The upcoming 8800m series (ist possible?)

Also if you know a place to buy them ,tell me please

    Thaaaaaaaaaaanks alot....

if you want an 8700M-GT you could just overclock your 8600GT.

As for the 8600gt not providing 'next" gen GFX... just remember that the PS2 NGC and XBOX were running on 640x400 resolution, see how your games run a that resolution, the XBOX 360 runs on 1200x768 (something similar) and the PS3 runs on 1900x1080, think about that when comparing PC's to consoles. Also remember that consoles were purely designed for gaming and as such they game... very well.

You wouldn't be able to upgrade your GFX card anyway. It's not done in laptops (there are a select few, and I'd doubt the Acer would have an MXM module lol)

The new Acer Aspire 5920 has an MXM module? So that means it's easily upgradeable right? BTW, Ice-Tea, can ATI mobile GPUs be used with MXM slots? I know ATI has AXIOM, but the other day there was this guy at our university with the same laptop as mine, but I saw an ATI X700 sticker instead. I approached him and asked him if his laptop has an X700 and he told me yes. We both have the Uniwill 259EN BTW. I also saw some guys in your site, LaptopVideo2Go, upgrading their 6600s to 7600s.

    @ Phritz

The PS2, Gamecube and Xbox all run at 640x480. Not sure about the Wii but I'm pretty sure it's only 640x480. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 can output 1080p (1920x1080) through HDMI. Many of games on the 360 and PS3, however, are made natively in 720p (1280x720) resolution. In essence, most of the games really run at 1280x720 and they scale to 1080p if your display supports it. There are some games that run natively on 1920x1080. Virtual Tennis 3 for both the 360 and PS3 run at 1920x1080.

    @ Ahmed

I don't know if you're just picky or your definition of next-gen graphics is bad. The 8600M GT is capable of graphics at par with the Xbox 360 and PS3. You don't tell to ask me. I had an Xbox 360 (which broke this June) and I always go to my friend's house to play his PS3 and his 360. His PC with an ATI Radeon X1950XT can run DiRT smoothly and display graphics better than Motorstorm at 720p. XD Bah... I wish I had a card as powerful as that.

Belive it or not, I also have PS3 & Xbox360, And i can tell Now that the 8600m-GT is NO where near to any of them in terms of performans....

To be fair I dont know about the Desk top Version, Im only comparing with the laptop ver.

Also I am sure the Acer 5920G support the MXM cards, And you can check ICE MAN sig.

The only thing left is to know where these cards are sold, Any one??!!

NOTE: Both the PS3 & the X360 can run 1080p (Not all games) as SymphonyX said.

And i think i heard (or read) that the Wee (or Wii :p ) can run at 800*500 wide with components.

Its probably unlikely that the 8800M will work in your notebook well. The heat output of such a card would be very high, and for the existing cooling system to handle that sort of output would be difficult. The power requirements will also be higher aswell. However, you could overclock your current graphics card and get a bit more performance out of it.

If you have a ps3 and an xbox 360 why exactly are you after a gaming laptop? If you are not happy with the 8600m gt then stick to your consoles...

Im sure the 256mb 8600m gt will perform well with Crysis on mediumish settings but since you already have the consoles it would probably be safer to go for a console version even if the controls will be sucky :p

To get back on topic I don't think there is much point in upgrading to a 512mb version, and from what I heard upgrading cards in general is very unlikely to work.

Meh. You're either blind or biased. You said "in terms of performance". Graphics-wise, the 8600M GT can keep up with the 360 and PS3. I've never played on a computer with a GF 8600 but I've seen what an overclocked 7600GT can do. And BTW, there is NO 800x500 resolution.

BTW, don't post without checking what you've written. I personally hate people who can't put extra effort in clearing up what they're written. And no, being Jordanian and English not being your first language doesn't excuse you from this.

And if Crysis is the only game you wanted (which is apparently your reason for buying a gaming laptop), why the hell did you buy a laptop with an 8600M GT if you weren't sure of its "performance". Bah. If I were you, BEFORE POSTING AGAIN, download the Bioshock demo (or buy the game) and run it on your laptop and look for a setting that gives you 25-30 FPS on average. If you say it's crap, then there must be something wrong with you or your laptop. The other guys here in the forum with 8600M GTs have already posted some screenies of Bioshock running on their laptops. I was like "WOW! Looks better than the 360 demo!" when I saw them.

If you really want insane "performance", you should have just built a high-end desktop and bought a non-gaming laptop, or waited for those laptops with the Geforce 8800M GPUs. The MXM modules are EXPENSIVE. You can buy an Xbox 360 for the price of an MXM module. I'd reckon a Geforce 8800M module will cost more than a PS3. Check LaptopVideo2Go. It's Ice-Tea's site and he sells those. It's damn expensive.

i think that i somewhere read that PS3 uses a similiar 7900GTX or 7950GTX graphics card. now im not a pro but i think that the ps3 graphics card is much better than 8600m-gt not neccesarly because its mid end but because its laptop and doesn really match a 7900gtx desktop.
