Hey guys, I was just wondering which would be better to go for. The Qosmio has a free HD DVD-ROM upgrade, and with HDMI out would look great on my HDTV, but the 8600M-GT is the GDDR2 version with 256 MB. The Asus has the GDDR3 version of the 8600M-GT. I mostly game on my 360 (I know, sacrilege here), and would only play occasionally, mostly FPS's. Most of the other stats are comparable, and the prices nearly the same. Here are the detailed stats:

Qosmio: 2.4 Ghz T7700; 2 GB DDR2 DRAM; 256 MB 8600M-GT GDDR2; 1 GB Intel Turbo Memory; 160 GB 5400 RPM Hard drive; and of course the HD DVD drive
    Stats Here

    Asus: 2.2 Ghz T7500; 2 GB DDR2 RAM; 256 MB 8600M-GT GDDR3; 160 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    Stats Here

I just need to know how negatively the GDDR2 would impact gaming, and if it would be worth it for the HD DVD drive. Thanks to all who answer.

The DDR2 version is about 20-30% slower. Something like a resolution notch.

But is that worth the HD-DVD drive? Since I only game occasionally on the laptop, could I still play newer games (Crysis, etc.) at comfortable resolutions and quality with the DDR2?
