Hi... I'm going to need a notebook for all the usual multimedia work and 3d rendering in Alias/solidworks/3ds max or rhino or whatever 3d rendering program.
I read somewhere that rendering depends ONLY on cpu power and a good video card is needed only for navigating around the model easily?
For my budget, it's the FX570m Lenovo close to 2500$ Vs a Dell 8600m GT at 2000$. I want to know if the quadro card is worth the extra money (being based on the same core) or will an 8700m GT/8800 offer better performance than the FX570m?
THANKS!

I believe that Quadros have a few OpenGL features unlocked (or something along the lines of that), so that may or may not be useful to you.
I would think that the 8700M GT/8800M GTX would perform better in general than the FX570. -
when you like to game or use D3D based apps, the gamer card would be the better choice. 3dsmax is using D3d and it´s quite fast. as for 95 % of the other professional apps you would need opengl acceleration.
in any case you should read the sticky on professional graphics cards in the game section.
to put another contender into the ring..... have you seen the hp 8510w ?
this one is a pro workstation also. -

Something for the OP to read -
So basically, there's a much lesser chance of going wrong with a quadro right?
and any views on the future with some new 3d modeling sw (the new maya) supporting directX? will i be able to run those better or the same as an openGL card thats so much more expensive?
Thanks! -
Quadro is better at CAD work and worse at gaming. A normal 8600M GT will be able to handle CAD work, but it won't be stellar.
If you need to do CAD a lot, then the Quadro is better. Especially with large projects.
Quadro?
