i have a lenovo t61p with a nvidia quadro fx 570m gpu. i am getting max temps in the mid 90's celcius during load while playing battlefield 2. this is my first experience with a notebook before but i know for a desktop card thats insane, so is this temp ok or too high?

For the card itself, it's still good. It depends on how the laptop is built arround the card.

I know the card's thresh hold is up to 120C but 95 is definitely too high, heat is THE killer for any computer components

Yeah that sounds too high to me too. I have the Lenovo T61p with the Quadro FX570M as well. I have only seen max temperatures reaching 75C with mine while gaming. It sounds like your card could be one of the defective ones. :/

How hot is the room that you are using your laptop in? The cooler the room the cooler your laptop will run. Also what kind of surface are you using your laptop on? Make sure it is a flat smooth surface. Check out the cooling guide for more tips, but personally I think your laptop's GPU might be one of the defective cards that Nvidia shipped. :(
    Good luck,
    Tim

Sounds too high. I don't see it go much higher than 82, and often averages in the 70s. That too may be on the high side, but there isn't much to do about it. This particular card seems to idle at 55-60 on my laptop. Fortunately the laptop itself remains very cool, and CPU load temperatures hardly ever reach the 60s, with idle in the 35 degree range.
