Hey guys, I would like to ask your opinions on the Quadro K5000. I am currently buying a year old Alienware 14 2013 version from a guy for a price of £500. However, he made it known to me that it is equipped with a Quadro K5000 and an Intel i7 3630 processor, 12 gig ram and 720GB HDD. From what I read, the Quadro K5000 is a workstation graphics card and is not used for gaming. I will primarily be using this laptop for studies and gaming, particularly for Dark Souls II, which just came out!

I am unable to find benchmark scores for it running on DSII. Do you think this would be good enough to run DSII on high settings? Would it be a good buy for gaming?

    Thanks and much appreciated!

Is he pulling your leg? I don't think an AW 14 with Quadro K5000M exists...

He said that he bought it from a guy who installed it. He sent me pictures of the specifications as well as and took a picture of it. I presume he shouldn't be? Because I am paying through Paypal, and he sent me an invoice with the specifications so I don't think it is a scam. I can recover my money back via Paypal or Credit Card chargeback.

It's probably an AW 17 and he's confused. The AW 14 GPU is soldered and the K5000M is an MXM card.

Wait... Now I'm confused. You're saying that it is not possible for a K5000M to be fit into an AW14? Because he sent me a service tag number and I checked it. It was AW14

I don't know if it's impossible, but it would involve heavy modding like swapping out the entire mainboard and cooling apparatus and who knows what other dremeling and cutting is needed since the K5000M doesn't come in embedded form. At that point, is it still an AW 14, or a Frankenbook in an AW 14 chassis? You'd never get warranty support for something like that.

Honestly, you would be better posting this in the Alienware section of the forum.

Will do. Thanks! I presume it is a decent card, even for gaming too?

First of all: It can`t be the Alienware 14, it got to be the M14x R2. Alienware 14 have 4xxxQM, not 3xxxQM series. Unless he for some reason decided to downgrade the CPUs for some reason.
Second: I`m not sure but I think M14xR2 use soldered GPUs as well. Meaning he couldnt have installed different GPU than the one you get when you order from Dell.
Third: Even if he could install K5000M, he wouldn`t sell the notebook for 500 pounds. The K5000M cost like 1000 pounds alone.
Forth: You wouldn`t want a K5000M inside that thin one fan notebook designed for sub 50W. We are talking heat here that it wouldnt be able to handle

Well it's an underclocked 680M, so it should perform between 675M and 680M, probably around 770M. Since the 680M is already a very underclocked card, I bet the K5000M has even more overclocking headroom so you can really push it if thermals are in check.

    As people have mentioned:

    1) Quadro cards only come in MXM format, not BGA soldered versions
    2) AW14 would have Haswell 4xxx series CPUs, not Ivy Bridge 3xxx series
    3) The K5000M by itself would cost north of £500, let alone a fully functional system with the K5000M installed

This entire deal just reeks of a scam, stay far far away from it
