I bought a pretty cheap Dell D630 a few weeks ago and with the Quadro drivers from the Nvidia site it works pretty well for some games at lower settings/resolutions, but I was wondering whether downloading the Nvidia drivers as opposed to the Quadro ones would improve performance any.

The current driver version which I'm using is the 296.88 Quadro driver and the newest available 8 series mobile driver is 301.42. I've read that the Quadro drivers are more aimed at business apps, which makes sense. Would the 8 series drivers improve gaming performance any?

I don't think it will do much, I had the same card and it didn't in my case.

But you can overclock it around 20-30% with not much effort.

I don't know if it's a good idea though since it does have a problematic g86 core.

I checked the GPU ID when I bought it as I knew about the faulty chips. It has the revised one, which apparently doesn't break like the others.
