Quake Live⢠on Steam

Amazing visuals
-
Need your 980m SLI rig for it though. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
-
Probably not because of the graphics but the speed of the gameplay
Im getting too old for these fast paced games. Reaction of a tortoise
HTWingNut likes this. -
I'm so excited, I had to line up in front of the store hours before opening like Apple fanboys.
-
Same here. I have good memories of these kinds of games but any time I try to play them I realize my reaction times have slowed greatly. We need to start an old man's league. Only the lowest sensitivity allowed.
No need to wait. I am giving away free copies of this game to everyone!
Wow. That was fast, downloaded in 89 seconds....

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Now spend the next 5 minutes installing DirectX and Microsoft Visual crap... -
Oh yeah, for sure. You can do a lot of really glitchy/borderline cheating things at 250 FPS in the Quake engine. This is the kind of game where I'm glad I overclocked my LCD to 103 Hz.
Dat Internet speed...
M$ DirectX and Visual C++ Redist? It's an OpenGL game and the engine code is open source.
-
hahaha my 440Kb/s look ridiculous...
-
As does the 3 MB/s I'm paying an arm and a leg for.
-
14MB/s?? Man I thought my upgrade from 300kb/s to 1MB/s was amazing. I didnt even know Steam could deliver such speed.
Yeah Im not sure if its my age or just horrible skills in Unreal tournament/Quake games, but the people there are lightning fast with aim and running and wall jumps etc -
I played for a bit and did reasonably well. I actually got some kills. Basically stalked others that were fighting each other and get a few cheap kills that way.
-
lol you must be proud
-
Well there you go, it's not all about twitch reflexes and reaction time. Older players might not be able to keep up with the young'uns in that regard, but they can still be competitive if they learn the maps and apply good strategy.
They actually dumbed down the game right before the Steam release to appeal to casual and new players, which I'm none too happy about. I feel that adding assisted strafe jumping (a type of bunny hopping to increase movement speed), weapon loadouts, and item timers messes with some core elements of the original game and hurts the essence of Quake, which is rooted in high skill ceiling and competitive play.
But who am I to complain. At the very least, the Steam release breathes new life into the game and brings in a lot more fresh meat to frag.
-
And I can still kinda hold my own...
-
-
Lol yeah cheers. Ill have to see if I can fiddle with things so I can have me some low ping Japanese meat.
Actually most of the locals here are US millitary folk who are pretty skilled.. at least as far as BF goes. -
Wut backward place do you live in Cloud? Even India has 5MB/s interwebs now
-
Jesus... I guess there are some pros about living in Japan like this... Only major con for me is that I hate sushi & fish...
-
Why they had to change the announcer voice? -_-
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
They did what now?!?
-
Don't you mean "why did they have to noobify the game with weapon loadouts and item timers?" Sheesh, get your priorities straight.
-
I can live with that (and it was stated that there will be non-Battlefield game modes), but that laid back voice is so out of place!
