im going to get a laptop soon.... but i starting to convince myself that i shouldnt get one with an dedicated gfx card so itll prevent me from gaming to much so i can concentrate on school more...

problem is i hard its good to get a dedicated gfx card cause of movies and stuff, so i dont really know what to do...

i kinda figure i should either get the new hp dv2500 with the intel gma x3100 or if dedicated gfx really does make a difference, the hp dv2000 with the 128mb geforce 7200?/7100?

    what should ido?

The x3100 can play HD video. It was one of the things that Intel did in the demonstration.

If you are planning on avoiding games, what other types of applications do you think you will be using on the notebook? Make sure you meet the minimum requirements on all of the programs you intend to use before buying.

Filling out the FAQ in the What Notebook Should I Buy forum would help some if you haven't already given that a shot.

If that's the case, then you'll be more than fine with the X3100. If you're going to do some CAD work, like building bridges, or playing new games like Supreme Commander, you'll need a pretty hefty graphics card.

As FREN mentioned, you would be fine with integrated graphics for the uses you listed above. The x3100 will be more than enough for those things.
