The Xbox 360 is outdated compared even to desktops from two years ago.

Compared to your top-of-the-line Go7800GTX, there is no comparison between the 360 and it. Your laptop blows the 360 into dust and atoms.

Don't believe everything you hear. ;)

No kidding. There's a reason your videocard alone costs more than an xbox 360. Let's use some common sense here ;)

Grab a copy of Call of Duty 2 and crank the settings all the way up. Have your friends bring their high inferior 360's to your house with the same game. Run them side by side and prepare to be worshipped.

Yep. Hey wait that means my Dell is only like a year behind the 360 :) Well anyway the thing I like about game consoles like the 360 is renting games and the amount of games many of which are exclusive. And the prices and longevity, no need to upgrade constantly or anything-should last 4yrs instead of 1 or so.

But not as technologically excellent and no mods etc

Enjoy your m170! Your friends are just jelous!

I have something to say to your friends. Tell them when I read this I was ROFLMAO. :D Not only is your M170 and my XPS Gen 2 more powerful than the Xbox 360, our systems defeat the 360 in every single performance category. We have just about twice as much graphical horsepower, do 2 to 5 extra commands per CPU cycle with our much more efficient and faster (not in terms of GHz) Intel CPU's, have way more memory, faster access times, and so many things I can't list them all. Don't believe the marketing hype BS. If you want to believe someone's marketing look at the Macs using Intel CPU's. Now how can switching from IBM to Intel make that much of a difference? Because Intel is better than IBM. IBM's are in the 360. Intels are in our laptops. We've got the upper hand. Microsoft dreams that the 360 could compete with one of our laptops and because in the performance tests it can't, they create a marketing scheme to make people think it's more powerful than what it actually is.

I would say the Xbox 360 has power similar to a X1300 being its the R500 core.

The 7800GTX blows the hell out of that thing all the way.

    4 pipes ( x1300) vs. 24 ( 7800) PLUS Gddr3 Mem etc

the 7800 doesnt even come close to it...7800 is like a Kia ( x1300) vs Ferrari ( 7800)

Yes those guys above are correct, but your friends may be saying this because games look so good on the XBOX. Thing is those games were specifically tuned and tweaked for the XBOX that's why they run so great on that hardware.

If game designers took the time to tweak their games to run on your specific PC setup then your PC would run games a lot better than it does now.

So tell your friends Shampoo said be quiet little one.

    :D

Oh yeah, wait for the Playstation 3, it is going to have the Nvidia graphics set based on the 6800 series, but it is a more powerful version. It's going to be crazy~! Now THIS setup will rival PC setups.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Edit:: Maybe the PS3 was delayed because they decided to put a graphics chipset based on the newer 7800 series or 7900 series chip??? Ooooooooooo'

Actually, the RSX (nvidia GPU) in the PS3 will have more power then 2 7800s in SLi, no kidding, i read this on GameSpot, if i find the link i will post it here. :)

unless i remember incorrectly and it was 2 6800s in SLi, but either way, thats a lot of **** power

let me look for the link

okay, i remembered incorrectly its 2 6800s in SLi here is the info:

So how many traditional pipelines does the RSX have? Sony has revealed that the RSX GPU has a 550MHz core clock and has over 300 million transistors. Sony has also stated that the chip is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra cards put together. Your first guess might be that Nvidia simply doubled the pipeline number on the 6800 Ultra to make the RSX, but you also have to remember that the Ultra only clocked in at 400MHz. If the "double" performance measurement is based on fill-rate performance rather than hardware, the clock speed increase up to 550MHz is clear sign that the hardware improvement isn't from a pure doubling of pipelines. We're guessing that the actual pipeline count is going to be at 24, which is about right for 300 million transistors and, at 550MHz, has just a slightly larger fill-rate than two GeForce 6800 Ultras clocked at 400MHz. Since the GeForce Ultra had 6 vertex pipelines, the RSX likely has 6 more vertex pipes in addition to the 24 pixel pipelines.

This is an awesome thread....especially because just LAST NIGHT, I sold my Xbox 360. The reason? I purchased a Dell E1705 w/ the 256mb Go 7800. There is NO comparison. First of all....the resolutions on laptops goes far over what the 360 is able to output....not to mention most of the HDTVs purchased today have native resolutions far below those of laptop screens.

You know what though? There is an area in which the 360 will SMOKE ANY pc.....desktop or laptop. Here's the scenario:

You and your friend go and buy a copy of Call of Duty 2....see who is able to actually play the game first =) The only thing the 360 has on pc is not having 5 or 6 CDs to install....

Sony has a tendency to exaggerate things a little. I'm expecting a system on par, or just slightly more powerful than the xBox 360. I hope that sony just blows my mind away, but I have my doubts.

Yea its all hype with the consoles. I definatly like the look of CoD2 on pc better than 360. Those poor console-devoted souls who have had their minds warped by the propaghanda into thinking their pittiful boxes are better than compies :( .

    COME BACK TO THE LIGHT!!!!

And the best part about PC gaming is:

    NO ANALOG STICKS!!!!!!!!! :D

thats a pretty interesting statement, cause i just seen a video of the CEO of Nvidia talking about it, pretty intresting stuff.

not only that but there is no processor out on the market that can outperform the Cell, yes... i know what you are thinking now... "this guy doesnt know what hes talking about" BUT.. read this info

    http://www.ps3forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7671

as you can see, the cell is just amazing, finally bringing back vector processing, its just unbeilivable.

It might have that power, but can it use it all? I highly doubt it. The xBox 360 has a 'triple-core' PowerPC 3.2GHz. Compare it to a real life PC processor, even a mainstream one - it's pitiful.

The PS3's graphics will, like all other consoles, be well under the capabilities of PCs, but then again, you pay a hell of a lot less for a console.

There is no comparison between PC graphics and console graphics.

Yeah it was 2 6800's in SLi. I think that's a bit overexaggerated by the folks who came up with that, but still it will be FREAKIN' HUGELY POWERFUL. Even if it keeps up with a 6800GT that would be great~! Never had that kind of power in a console before.

Can't wait for it, but I bet it's going to cost an arm and a leg.

as previously stated, a PC is so much more powerful (potentially..im not talking intergrated graphics lol) compared to a 360. they catch alot of people with the demo of CoD2 in the stores..BUT unless you have a HD tv, with monster cables, then it wont look AS good as the stores showcase. also, when i cranked up the CoD2 demo for the PC...i liked it a whole lot more...more eye candy = goodness.

i will most likely buy every console sony makes (no portables), simply for the final fantasy series, metal gear solid series, and some others...when they all decide to jump ship and sail with another console, so will i...ill most likely buy both lol...

    Have to admit that CoD 2 looks really good on a 360 . . but on a Go7800GTX and an FX-60, with 1280x1024, 2X anti-ailasing and 8X AF . . I'll take PC.

Consoles may be able to mimmick PC graphics right now (not as good still), but once DirectX 10 hits, PC will obliterate consoles. ;)

playing COD2 on an Xbox 360 is laughable compared to any modern PC version. Anti-aliasing is non-existent, it doesn't look bad, but Half-life 2 on Xbox, no no no ^_^

i can't wait to see what PS3 can do however, Cell processor and something new from Nvidia cannot be a bad thing.

thats strange becuase the 360s graphics processor can Anti-alias with virtually no performance hit whatsoever, and if this is the case then i dont understnad why they did that to call of duty 2

    THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK GOODNESS for this topic!

I have some idiot friend who thinks an XBOX360 is more powerful than any pc. He thinks it can outperform a pc with this spec:

    2X 7800GTX 256mb SLi
    4Gb RAM
    10,000Rpm Hard Drive
    AMD FX 57

I'll show him this topic to shut him up lol!

4gb ram is not needed for anything out right now..also a 10k hard drive will only help in load times...the fx-57 and 7800gtx SLI..put the pc on a much higher pedastal...the xbox cannot even come close it the pc..it might, but not right now.

Those spec are mine, except it's a P4 3.2ghz, not a AMD FX 57. I'm quite interested in your opinions myself, I believe my PC is *at least* as powerful as the Xbox 360, if not more.

    Opinions?

I'm planning on buying an X-BOX 360 once all the bugs are sorted out, I'd like a good gaming laptop a lot more, but compare $400 to $2000... I'll take the former, myself, though if I had the money I'd get the latter.

In response to the Analog sticks comment, can't you just hook up a USB mouse and Keyboard to the X360? The only time I'd rather a mouse and keyboard is on a FPS (cannot stand analogs on those, too inaccurate) or a MMOG (if I'm typing to others I'd rather not have to put the controller down, type, pick it up, put down, type, wash, rinse repeat...

Currently, that is a negative on the Keyboard/Mouse situation for the 360. Supposedly, there is support for a keyboard/mouse combo in the future, but it may not work in games.....so, I'm not really sure what it would be good for on a gaming console, that's MS for ya.

Ah, all right. If that doesn't get sorted out, FPS on computers are better anyway, in my opinion... Just my favorite series of them just happens to wait about 2 years after the console release to put them out on PC (Halos), but I almost never get a game directly after they're released anyway...

I was pretty sure on the keyboard working though, I've heard people playing the FFXI Beta on the 360 can play with a USB keyboard, just the numpad movement doesn't work. I think that may or may not have been fixed...
