I have a MSI GX600 with the stock T7300 CPU. If I were to upgrade it to an X9000 CPU how much of a gain would I see in both 3DMark06 scores and in FPS for gaming ?? I know that currently my stock CPU runs at 2.0GHZ and with the Turbo button it Runs at 2.4Ghz. So if I were to install a X9000 stock it will run at 2.8Ghz and on Turbo 3.36Ghz ???!!!!That would be a nice upgrade
Thanks for your thoughts on this. God Bless

Depends on the gpu. The 3dmark06 score will increase, while fps may increase by one or two fps, depending on the gpu
-
You would not see much of a game performance increase, that is heavily based on the GPU.
-
I am also guessing that since the X9000 is based on the new Penryn CPU that running it on Turbo at 3.36Ghz will actually be cooler than running my stock T7300 at 2.4Ghz. God Bless

Oc'ed? Hard to tell

Are there not some games out today like 'World in Conflict' that are also more CPU dependant?? Again thanks for your thoughts on this. God Bless -
There are, but they still need a relatively good gpu to use the cpu to its full advantage

I upgraded a T5450 (1.66ghz) to a T9300 (2.5ghz) and saw a 1600pt increase in 3DMark06, and saw big gains in game FPS also.
-
Wow that is a huge increase. Anyone else have the same experience as you with the X9000 ?? -
The T5450 was bottlenecking the 8800M GTS, while the T7300 isn't bottlenecking his 8600M GT so it won't be as big.

I believe that the MSI GX600 is available with the Penryn T8300 CPU so I would *think* it would also work with the X9000. Also looking in the bios of the laptop it does have a section for overclocking the CPUWhich I would think is pretty rare for a laptop / notebook. God Bless

The T8300 produces much less heat than the X9000. The T8300 and all of the other Penryn Core 2 Duos have a 35W TDP; the X9000 has a 44W TDP and needs a significantly beefier heatsink to handle the heat output.
I almost always recommend against CPU upgrades because the performance gain is marginal at best and unnoticeable. Putting in a faster hard drive would greatly speed up system performance on the whole. You might as well try that CPU overclocking feature on your notebook. That is one of the GX600's selling points.
