hello, my names Brian, I have a couple questions about the dell XPS 13 9350 and its gaming performance/capabilities if anyone might have input/opinions for me that would be great!
the model I own is one a purchased this year, just a couple of months ago, in march 2017.
its the fully loaded version, with the following specs
- dell xps 13 9350
- intel core i7-6560U processor
- intel iris 540 graphics card
- 16GB of Ram/Internal Memory
- 512GB NVMe SSD (reads 16xx/writes 98x according to crystal mark benchmark, x=unknown number, so these are rough numbers, but still in that ball field if that even matters/I'm a noob I guess)
my laptop boots up within 10 seconds if that matters, and everything seems pretty quick to work/load up
my laptop has the QHD+ infinity edge display with touchscreen, so I've read ill need to set my resolution to 1080p manually or something?
other than that, those are the specs of my dell xps13, its a newer model and runs outstanding - I've had no problems with it what-so-ever, but I have never played any games on it.
am I going to be able to play/handle games like GTA V or Saints Row (any of them) on this laptop even in the lowest settings available and not have to worry about extreme lag, or am I going to waste my time installing these games and not even be able to play them? I have GTA V and it took me forever to install on both my desktop and old HP laptop, the desktop was unplayable, extremely laggy and I couldn't even play it.. the hp installed the game, but it was also pretty laggy, the laptop(HP) I had it installed on only had an a8 AMD chip with Radeon R5 graphics, it really wasn't fun to play and was choppy and slow. Like the frame rate was horrible..don't even know what it was at, but it would like freeze in-between frames as I played, extremely annoying.
does anybody know if I will experience similar results on the dell xps 13 I have? I'm not expecting something great, I don't expect graphics to be superb, I don't expect game-play to be perfect, I'm talking bare-minimum, is this machine capable of that? smooth gameplay, no choppy laggy screen freezing frame-rates etc. ?
I just want to play the game, don't really care how it looks (although I want it to be playable) just want it to be smooth game play and would saints row be a less-graphics demanding title for me? I also like call of duty, and would like to try counter strike go maybe, I like games like that, also halo, I'm not really into many other game types, more so those types of games..i used to play diablo 2 exp a ton when I was a kid, and it didn't really require super-crazy graphics cards and things like that, so if anybody have any recommendations on games like the ones I described, that also would be great!
thank you so much for reading this (if you made it this far) I really appreciate you guys !!
I hope to get some answers on this web forum as I've posted this on a couple others through the dell support website and have gotten zero response, and its been a couple days already I had expected at-least something by now lol, thanks again everyone! take care and peace out!

To play GTA 5 on that system, you'll probably have to lower the in-game resolution to 1280x720 and put most, if not all, of the settings on their lowest.

so...
this laptop IS CAPABLE of actually playing GTA V then? I just don't want to spend (idk how many hours, but a lot of them) downloading it onto my SSD only to be stuck with something not even usable/playable again, it really broke my heart when this happened on my desktop, I was a complete noob when it came to system requirements etc. and only read minimum requirements upon purchasing GTA V from Walmart, I got home and installed it and couldn't even get the game to play without extreme lag..it was horrible, that was on my desktop that had absolute bare minimum when it comes to dells pre-built (small sized) desktop towers. -
also, I wanted to ask about the SSD, the one I have (according to device manager) is:
NVMe THNSN5512GPUK NV
now I know its a 512GB SSD, but I have no idea on how to identify which kind it is, meaning who made it - I've read dozens of debates on which company makes the best SSD's, but I cant even determine which make. Model I have to begin researching it, all I know is I downloaded the Crystal Disk Mark benchmark for read and write speeds and I tested it, and the results ill post with a picture attachment here, is there a way to determine how good this is or who made it? Samsung/Toshiba/etc.etc. ? I don't even know which model it is after that, I do remember doing some scan dell had me do, and reading somewhere in the info of the stuff it tested that my SSD was Toshiba? I think? but I cant find any other users/documents supporting that my SSD's read/write speeds are that of a Toshiba make, if that makes sense. anyways, if you have any idea/input on this that would be awesome!
I guess I cant add an attachment from my computer to the forums? so ill just give you the info manually as shown on the photo..
5 | 1GiB | c: 19% (87/465GiB)
Seq Q32T1: Read = 1652 MB/s - Write = 986.1 MB/s
4K Q32T1: Read = 491.3 MB/s - Write = 376.5 MB/s
Seq: Read = 1362 MB/s - Write = 1006 MB/s
4K: Read = 48.51 MB/s - Write = 141.3 MB/s
again this is using the Crystal Disk Mark program, and that's how my results came out after closing everything I had opened (edge browser with youtube/facebook/google loaded, and a couple other apps that I manually closes/hit X) - not sure if I was supposed to run this test after shutdown or if I had to manually disable some programs from running at start up, I did nothing like that, just downloaded it and ran it after closing out programs I was running manually -

not bad, thanks mate! very helpful video, appreciate it kevin! -
is there a program or app I can use to monitor my FPS during game play? I am using an app called core temp to monitor temperautres of my laptop when gaming (GTA V online) and it averages at 73~80 degrees, it will randomly jump from those temps to 83~87 sometimes, but it stays consistently between 73~80, is that ok also? I use this laptop for web browsing, youtube, an like very casual/light gaming (GTA V ONLY) - I don't use any of the other apps, like ill use the photos app to look at pictures and check my mail sometimes, but everything else I don't really use..is there a way to stop programs from running in the background and upon startup ? like make it to where they only run those processes and programs when I load them, not automatically run them in the background? thanks in advance
