I believe there are no external video cards.
This is also covered in the Sticky (I feel like an a-hole for saying that) -
There are a few options out there, just google 'external graphics cards'.
Most of them still seem to be in development however, but it says this one is available in the UK:

If that thing was real it would be a true godsend. I'd probably have to buy one.

I'd have to buy two or three if it ever came out...

ASUS XG STATION is your first option
MAGMA PCI or PCI-E module
For both you need an EXPRESS CARD 54 slot or maybe 24 but im not sure or is it 34?...
EDIT: MY BAD!!! 34 EXPRESS CARD!!! no need for 54 on the magma
Those are the only ones...
MAGMA: AVAILABLE
XG STATION: DELAY -
External graphics card = external monitor, if and when they finally show.
Cost of monitor + cost of external card = might as well have a desktop, or a DTR. -
Laptop + ext. card = Light and portable + powerful at work / home -

External graphics cards, no matter how fast they are, will always be bottlenecked by the interface. ExpressCard is PCI express x1 which has limited bandwidth. I have yet to see the Asus XG station for sale, it was not exactly a 'success'.
@original poster - unfortunately you are stuck with the video performance you have. What kind of card is it?

At first people where exited and stuff.... if it would have been released when it should have it would have sold great!
Take best buy for an example.... they could trick people into buying it... so they buy a 13 inch laptop as an example and then have power to play games when at home... where not talking die hard gamers.... right now...
So yeah.... -
i guess it would probarbly work with someone who wants a little kick in performance from a integrated GPU . but i suppose its just a dream at the moment!!!! we can just carry on dreaming!!!

Why? Some people already are using it...

oooh....my apologies....didn't see that!
thats BRILLIANT! didn't know you could do up to 4PCI's!!
you learn something new EVERYDAY. -

I did some research (although there weren't that much to research about) and came to this conclusion...
Instead of spending a load of money on an external graphics card, which is no where near as good as any dedicated graphics card currently being produced, you might as well check out this thing that costs $500.

Or get a new Dell Inspiron/Vostro with a 8600GT in it. -
I mean... come on... you have to start with something... maybe they will start new mobos with external PCI-E 2.0 connectors..... ooh yeah
Just... everything has its beginning thats why XG station should be released promptly -

And the cost of the XG station in addition to the cost of the laptop is enough to get you a desktop with a 8800GTX.

And this is a first timer so it wont be ideal...
Just wait until the second generation of like ports come... idk... external PCI-E 2.0 slotsthen XGstation 2...
The point is to have a light long lasting laptop... and then make it fast when at home -
But you aren't getting it. After you buy the XG station, and the PCI-E card, you are looking at the cost of a new notebook with an 8600GT, which will outperform the station, due to the limited express bandwidth.

Laptop + external card + External Monitor = Not really light or portable anymore.
You forgot to add in the external monitor part. These external cards do not work with your laptops lcd display.
Again if you want the most in portablility and power then you need to get a DTR notebook. The D901C is the most powerful atm. (I know I have one!)

Heck, most current high-end gaming laptops = not very portable.
10 lb Laptop + Power Brick + Mouse + Bag + Headset = Backache. -

Or maybe he has back problems to start off with. Or probably most people are not used to carrying 12 lbs of stuff (in addition to whatever else they need to carry et books etc). I don't even like carrying an 8lb laptop in my backpack, but I am capable of carrying things heavier.
