Well...haven't posted on these forums in quite awhile, that needs to be rectified.

So my 19th birthday is soon approaching and I'm looking at either this Acer 22" LCD Monitor
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2430647&AffiliateID=lw9MynSeamY-b1EFHICPyQ.Yo_OKyVDoeg

or this Westinghouse 22" LCD Monitor
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?ATT=24255002&CMP=AFC-SlickDeals&Item=N82E16824255002&Tpk=LCM-22W3

Both 1680x1050 Resolution, 5ms refresh, and 700:1 contrast ratio.

My major concern is how well my laptop will be able to run games on the monitor. Specs are listed in the sig. I currently have my 7900gs running at 480/1100 and just for reference, at 1400x900 resolution, can play Oblivion with almost everything maxed out (keep shadow filtering, self shadows, and some other minor things off). And keep above 30 FPS outdoors, averaging about 70-80 indoors. I'm not sure how much of a hit in performance I will see jumping in resolution and using an external monitor in general. Also if anyone can give opinions on which monitor might be better overall that would be appreciated. So far it seems the Acer has actually gotten better reviews, but that could just be due to the price point.

i have a g1, that i hook up to a acer 19" i generally run at 1440 x 900. oblivion runs well on medium high averaging about 24 - 27. you better graphics should support the higher rez.

i reccomend the acer over westinghouse. i haven't had any problems with mine at all so.

Thanks for the post. I'm really wondering how much performance is hit though in the jump from 1440x900 to 1680x1050, since there is a 40% jump in total pixels onscreen, which to me seems like quite a bit, and I'm not sure exactly how that affects real gameplay.

Well, the Acer has an annoying splash screen when you turn it on and the Westinghouse is cheaper, so i'd go with #2.

I really wouldn't mind the splash screen on the Acer so much, I just want to know if a) my GPU is powerful enough to run games as demanding as oblivion at the native resolution of either LCD, and b) which of the two is better in quality.
