Hello, i am looking at getting a noteboook with a 8600 GT or GS--does anyone know any notebooksa that have that card WITH 512MB VIDEO MEMORY!! I have had a hard time finding it with 512. Any help is appreiciated, also are all the 8600's PCI-Express's even if the manufacturer doesnt announce it? Thanks again in advance! :)

Both cards use the PCI-E interface, that is a given. As for the 512MB video memory I cannot recall offhand. However if you search this forum with the video models and memory number you will get a few results.

There's no need to have one w/ 512 Mb of VRAM. There isn't a difference in performance between the 256 and 512 models. However, there is a difference between the DDR2 and GDDR3 models. The only ones with GDDR3 are the Asus G1/2s and the MBP.

Definitely take Lithus' advice. A 256MB GDDR3 GT will outperform most 512MB DDR2 cards in performance.

Lithus is correct, however, out of curiosity, what needs do you have that require 512mb of video memory? The only models I know of that have that would be the Compal IFL90 and the Asus C90s (there's also an MSI with 512mb GDDR3, but I'm not sure if it's been released yet).

Ahh, you're right, the 1719 is DDR2. The 512mb HD2600 should be GDDR3 though, I forget which number it is.

I forget, was there a reason you couldn't get the 8510p? It was certainly under your 1500 limit, if barely.

Ahh. What's wrong with the 8710p? It comes in right at your budget limit (with tax) and has kick@ss specs.

Well, a DDR3 8600M-GT/8700M-GT won't be found in a $1500 system unless you make some compromises. The closest thing I know of to what you're looking for would be the Clevo M570RU, which lightly configured would come close to your budget limit, but still be over it I'm afraid.

Well, for that price you could get a DDR2 8600M-GT or HD2600, in notebooks such as the Dell 1520/1500, Compal IFL90, Asus C90s (you may even be able to swing a GDDR3 in that one, if you keep everything else lightly configured), and Asus F3ka. If you up your budget $100 or so you can get a nice GDDR3 HD2600.

What's wrong with a DDR2 from Dell? I have one and it works great :).

Of course, I understand you'd always want the best performance for the buck whenever possible... But with a budget of 1300, you're going to have to make a compromise somewhere else if you want a DDR3 8600M GT... Most likely in the area of CPU or HDD Space (possibly RAM as well--but here's a tip: Always get the lowest amount of RAM and simply buy a stick or two elsewhere for loads cheaper ;)).
