I ordered this my first laptop named "Hp Pavilion DV6-1230us Entertainment whatsoever"

the question is when i called it and verified that i would like to buy it, the guy said that the video card is Intel GMA 4500MHD and he said that it can only handle 64mb of VRAM through gaming,

my question in the specification 1759 allocated memory is enabled then why does he said that it can only handle 64mb for gaming?

this confuses me alot, could you guys out there answer this. Thanks in advance

~i did not bought this for gaming, im just little confused about what he just said.

as an integrated gpu the intel gma 4500mhd is alocated memory based on your amount of regular ram, however, being a crappy card it cannot use very much ram. i have no idea where the dude got 64mb, but it doesnt matter. it will do general purpouse stuff and minor old gaming.

such as games like crysis wont run, but any game pre - 05 should run at least at low settings.

ohh i see, so running game with higher than 64mb+ is not a big deal, but playing new and high graphics games would not work?

so this means that if the game required 256mb of VRAM it would be automatically allocated even if it says 64mb is the base.?

by the way the ram of the laptop is 4gb

Thank you for answering! its a big help for me :)

In most cases you have to change it manually in the startup.

Even if you do reallocate it though, it won't make much of a difference if any. Been there myself.

...and before you ask, you can't upgrade the grapahics on this machine (or 99% of laptops) either.

Most laptops, you cannot change the amount since there is no BIOS option.

The whole "it will allocate memory up to X MB" is a joke. The 4500 will not magically turn itself into a dedicated GPU on the fly.

Yea if you planned to do heavy gaming it wont be a good choice, but since your not, then it will be adequate. It just latches off the system RAM as said, as it has none of its own. Either way it doesn't matter, its just a weak card.

Its a total load of crap... if ur from US u could get an ASUS G50 which is refurbished for 800 bucks, about the cost of Dv6 but the NVDIA Ge Force 9800M GS would trash the 4500MHD flat...

i got a gma 4500mhd graphics card on my toshiba laptop.the guy lied to you i think because usually and usually gma4500mhd's have 128 mb dedicated ram and 1 gb virtual ram.i have never seen a gma4500mhd that has the ram that the guy said.

look at the prefences at your computer it tells the thruth.

also on gma4500mhd driver right click on desktop and there will be options or panel abaout 4500mhd click to that.go to 3d options and there is a option about memory there.make it medium or low
