I feel a little out of the loop these days so please excuse my ignorant question, but...
If there's two graphics chips on a laptop (embedded and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050) how do I know which one the PC is utilizing?
For instance I just got a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop with i5 7300HQ and GeForce GTX 1050.
In the notification area there's icons for both Intel display properties and the Nvidia properties.
Same for if I right click on the desktop. I can adjust the properties of the Intel graphics app or Nvidia.
Does one override the other or do both settings affect the same common display features? How do I know which chip is doing the heavy lifting?
I didnt see anything in the BIOS to disable integrated display adapters like I used to in my old desktop gaming rigs.

It would be using Optimus. The iGPU acts as a pass through to the display dGPU > iGPU > Display.
When using 2D rendering it will generally use iGPU otherwise 3D will be dGPU.
You can check by running GPU-Z on the sensor tab for the nVidia GPU and seeing the utilization percentages.
Question about when there's two GFX chips...
