My girlfriend has an Inspiron e1505 with a onboard intel 945g chipset. Is there anyway for me to find out how crappy her graphics card is for peace of mind? I would like to think its total crap, but you would think that they wouldn't be that bad this day and age, plus it supposed to be Vista ready... >.>

It is Vista ready and Aero will work if you have at least 1GB RAM (2GB preferred), but that card is one of the lowest of the totem pole. Any games about 3 years old or older will work, but anything newer and you might have problems. Do research before buying games.

As for it being "crap" :), it depends on the usage. Gaming: crap. General office stuff: excellent (with excellent battery life as well...that is the greatest strength of the card).

There have been plenty of threads about this card, And yes it is pretty much the worst graphics solution available.

If you are curious about rankings/more info, please see the GPU guide.

I would not say it's the WORST graphics solution available, that totally depends on what you'll be doing.

The Intel integrated cards are not very good for GPU intensive tasks, and certainly not meant for gaming. I wouldn't tell her it's "total crap", maybe break it to her gently...with chocolate pudding or something.

Is she gaming? If not - excellent card, great battery life. It wasn't designed for games, so if she has this in mind, well...she should have researched more.

In 3dmark05 the gma950 pulls around 400-450 odd in 3dmark05. The best integrated cards pull about 700 (but i have heard of the X1250 getting significantly more, whether that's true I'm not sure). Even the worst dedicated cards of today get 1200 ish.

The GMA950 is around the worst integrated graphics card around right now, only being beaten by the GMA 915 on the last line of Pentium-M machines and the odd SiS and Unichrome machine for lack of 3d performance. As long as you have ATi or Nvidia graphics yours are better.

Its not crazy bad, but it is pretty bad. You can play Some......... (that is a stretch) of newer games (Valve games) Battlefield 2, and expansion packs. So I mean, you can play some games, but not too many new ones. But yes, the battery life is excellent, so if you use it school, office etc. then it is wonderful, and will probobly kill my computers at office work.
