everyone always talks about, '' how will 1080p look on a 4k screen?''

clearly the 980m can run many games at 1440p.

when you have a 4k screen and youre selecting the resolution in game, are you able to choose 1440p, 1620p and all the other options in between?

or does the next step down from 4k/2160p go straight to 1080p?

pretty much asking if its possible to game at 1440p and 3k on a 4k screen?

    thanks

Highly depends on individual game. Most of the games I have do have those resolutions you mentioned.

All the 4K monitors and laptops I tried had those in-between resolutions. If not, you can always create a custom resolution through the graphics driver.

ok thanks, i was just wondering because i keep seeing people say '' how would 1080p look on a 4k screen?'' i mean clearly 1440p will look better than 1080p on a 15 inch laptop so why not just do that?

Not necessarily true. I was not able to create any resolutions between 1080p and 4k with the 4k LCD in the Sager NP8652 with GTX 980m.

16:9 resolutions available on 4K screen:

    3840x2160
    2048x1152
    1920x1080
    1600x900
    1366x768
    1280x720

Same for 3K, but replace 3840x2160 with 2880x1620.

Yeah, not by a lot, but it is just about noticeable. It's mostly apparent on 2D elements, like in-game menus and UI.

Either look good on the Sharp display however :)

how much more does it affect the fps?

im sure anything looks better than this matte finish default clevo off brand screen. the brightness and colors suck. the sharp 4k screen looks like it would have good brightness and better colors. im sure photos look amazing in photoshop. they look amazing on the macbook pros with retnia and thats only 1600p. 4k must look stunning with high res photos. i prefer glossy finishes over matte anyways, i dont bring my laptop near windows or outside anyways

Not a lot at all really. If it can run at 1080p, it can run at 1152p for the most part. The performance hit is never more than a few frames.

If you're fine with glossy then there really is no downside to this display, other than how 3rd party Windows programs handle scaling (which is entirely a software issue and constantly improving over time - and I'm sure Windows 10 itself will do a great deal to help).

Yes, high quality pictures look stunning on this display, as do 4K videos. 4K games look fantastic too - the Indie stuff primarily as obviously even 980M lacks sufficient juice to drive recent AAA's at this resolution satisfactorily, but having said that older AAA games like Devil May Cry 2013, Mirror's Edge etc. really shine at 4K, 60fps at their maximum settings.
