So I'm thinking about getting this as my first laptop for college and gaming and it happens to be in my right price range of 1-2k.
My first concern is Windows Vista. I've heard more cons than pro's so far, although it is the new system. I'm so used to Windows XP and the XPS 1530 comes with Windows Vista. Should that be a big concern if I choose to buy it?
Another concern is Internet connection. How does that work for this laptop because I'm new with internet and laptops.
I'm probably going to buy this since Dell has been reliable in the past and have never failed on me. Ive only had one problem and while their customer service reps in India are annoying it's an alright problem since I have better ways to ask for information on here.
While I'm doing research, Should I consider any other laptops?
(1-2k budget, gaming and college laptop, also for movies/music)
-Thanks

Hi, I have ordered mine
Can't wait. It has a reasonably good notebook graphics card for gaming which can run games like UT3 and cod4 quite well.
About vista, vista is a very good operating system. Ive had it running since easter and it has never crashed once and it keeps running fast. It also makes you much more productive when you use it compared to xp...gah i would never go back to xp again!!! and it looks nice -
XPS 1530 is great laptop. I wouldn't worry about Vista. I didn't notice any. with good RAM your computer will be very fast. also there is a SP1 will be coming soon to fix whatever problem with it. it's new so you will just have to learn getting used to it.
It's great computer..
connect to internet can be by Cable "ethernet". or wireless. if you can't have cable where you are . get the modem.
The cutomer servise is by far the best I have ever delt with. -
@dvmxps1530:have u recieved yours

I am in college too.
My 8600m GT runs bioshock at max, call of duty 4 at max and crysis with everything at medium. So I am pretty happy. Of course this is all with the 1240x800 resolution. I personally like the larger resolution on mine.
Vista is fine but thats only cause I have 3 gigs on my m1530.
And yes the customer reps are annoying. But what customer reps aren't? -

Vista is really not as bad as some people say. In fact, I don't find anything displeasing at it at all. And XPS 1530 is a good choice, you won't regret it.

Yes I did , yesterday. I called them to send it back.. but then changed my mind. I will put a thread about this story soon.

I know everyone says that Vista is better than XP but be wary.
Vista is a more secure and fast (in certain aspects such as searching and connecting to wireless connections) but there is a decrease in gaming performance.
My half-life lost coast went from 42fps to 49 when I switched from Vista to XP Pro.
The good thing is the XPS 1530 has a pretty powerful graphics card so the difference wont matter as much as on my 8400M GS.
When it comes down to it though, it's just more of a preference thing. There's no real reason to choose XP over Vista or visa versa besides the little things that you can't (or would rather) live without. -
i cant wait to have my xps too. im excited about it *lol* but the delivery takes time. the delivery date of my xps is on 1/15/08.. cant wait.

I had great CSRs during my buying process.
Playing CS:S/TF2/DoD:S at 1200x800 at all high settings!
Its a great laptop, get a good packpack, and your set.
