    Rig: 8600M GT 256MB x 2, T7250 2GHz, 2GB 667

I'm new to this and I've been messing around with some oc's. I have a few questions about the oc capabilities of the the 8600M GT.

1-What oc do you generally game on, what's the highest you game on [if different], what's the highest you've tried?

2-What's the general concensus on the oc ability of DDR3?

3-How much should the temp guage in rivatuner be trusted? I ask because my temps have never read over 83c, though they idle @ 59-61 which sounds about average.

4-Are there any problems with de-linking the clocks? I was watching the monitors when I did so once and my core clock dropped when I raised the shader. Why? Are there any "issues" with de-linking them?

These 3DMark06 results were @ default resolution of 1280*854. The drivers are 169.09. I'm going off my memory so the scores are approximate.

    No oc =7050

Even with an overclock of Core:663 Shader:1326 Mem:837 the temperature during the 3DMark06 has a very short peak of 78c during test two and had plateaus in the mid 70s for the others. . The score was approx 8140.

When I game with an oc, my preferred setting is 565/1130/837. 3DM06=7950. As you can see, the clock is a lot less than my max, but gives most of the performance.

So am I quickly heading for disaster or, if its the case that so long as I keep an eye on how the temps are on a game by game basis, my OCs are more or less good and safe?

So you have two 8600mGT's? The 8600 is a very powerful card, especially the DDR3 version. To my knowledge, you should encounter no problems from de-linking core and shader, mine are not linked; I maxed out my shader to 1425 ( I have the DDR2 version). Make sure your GPU doesn't get up to 85c+ cuz then you'll start having problems. You should consider buying a notebook cooler if you are going to keep the OC speeds, as it will lower temps by 5-15c.

I know we aren't the only 2 people in the world overclocking their 8600M GT.

    Come on, post your info.
