    Play with keyboard?

Not the answer you were looking for but mouse + keyboard is a vastly superior form of control than a controller for a FPS. I recommend you try adjusting.

Could you use the 360 keyboard addon for the controller?

I can't think of using a gamepad for a FPS, but the voice chat support in this game is so good that I wouldn't miss using the keyboard.

Ya, if you play L4D, it is almost a must to use a Mic, because in the heat of the moment, and a teammate is in danger of getting owned by a hunter/boomer etc, typing aint gonna cut it.

And off topic, why in the world would you want to use a controller if you have it on the PC? I only use a controller for one game, GTA IV.

I know it's hard to adjust from a controller to a keyboard, and alot of people have preferences, but PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, and eventually it will be like second nature to you just like a controller.

yeah the steam application itself is the drm. it manages your game files and the game launching. steam drm is basically the best around for the consumer. you can install on as many computers as you want, and you can redownload everything as much as you want.

steam also gives you automatic game patching and updates, and access to the steam community. friends lists. etc.

its like xbox live except you dont have to pay for it!

If you buy the hard copy you will still have to use steam, its just the way valve roles. But don't worry steam isn't nasty, it isn't spyware, the performance hit is minimal and its a far more appropriate form of counter piracy than that of securom.

Steam isn't bad, but its annoying when an update is released and the client forces you to download and install before being able to play. Only a small niggle, I know :)

Your laptop keyboard is designed to be used. I still have laptops which I've used the keyboard on heavily for years, the keys still look fine. I can understand your want to keep the machine clean and looking tidy, but more importantly, it'll make L4D a worse experience! All the others are using mouse + k/b, and you're stuck using the controller... Not fair on you mate.

it will be pretty unfair for you because everyone with mouse and keyboard can spin around much faster than you can and aim much easier.

yeah. steam drm is the best around. plus, left4dead is an online game anyway. you would have to do the patch yourself before you could play online in either case. so the fact that steam does it automatically is still a plus in my book.

could be annoying with slower internet for single player games though, i agree. i never gave it much thought seeing as i get about 10 Mb down
