    Dell XPS M1330 + 2g RAM + 128mb GeForce 8400M GS = Win?
Will this be a good combo for source engine games and some heavy software like 3dmax and having +3 Adobe programs open at once.

I have a Dell 6400 now with 512mb RAM + 256mb ATI x1400 shared and i get a bit laggy with my external monitor at 1680 x 1050 when playing css and having a lot of adobe products open.

I read ~ a month ago that Dell was breaking out the 8600s on the lappys but it never happened. Shall I wait longer?

    Thanks.

AFAIK, 3d studio max + adobe programs (like photoshop, etc) do not use your GPU. RAM is the key component for those apps.

But what about the rendering process in max and hammer. They take forever with my 2.8 duo centrino and the other specs i mentioned above.

As long as it utilizes the GPU or CPU, you will see little to no improvements. I suggest you upgrade the ram on your older machine and not buy a new one. It's a waste of money. And no, Dell can't put 8600M GT's into 13 inch computers.

And did you say you had a 2.8 Dual Core processor? Then you would actually see a decrease in CPU tasks...

Really!?! I was aiming to give my current cp to my mother because her computer is running ME or something. I thought the 13 inch would be better than the one I have now!

I can only assume you meant 1.8Ghz Core Duo? The 8400Gs is an OK card for source, but it's only a slightly better next-gen card in the same performance class as the X1400 - so it'll mean a somewhat improved but not overhauled performance in Source.

What spec M1330 were you looking at?
