Does this have the capability to run Call of Duty 2 and Sims 2 - decently on decent settings? I can always have the wife scale down, but curious as to what it'd be able to run. :)

the sims might work at a lower setting, but CoD2 will not even run properly on a 900 or 950. these are NOT gaming cards...which is why i upgraded.

as for what you could run, it should be able to handle a low settings anything is that about two or three years old. anything newer and you're be lucky if it is playable.

    sorry.

Sims 2 works at full resolution and full specs on my friends E1505, he has the GMA950 and a Core Solo. So yeah sims 2 is fine, but CoD2? Haha, not a chance. Upgrade to the X1400 and you should be able to play it acceptably.

Runs Sims 2 fine, Call of Duty 2 will not start.

You'll need a mid-range dedicated card like the X1300/ Ge7300 to run it at lowish settings, X1400/Gf7400 to run it at medium settings and finally, an X1600/ Gf7600 to run at highish settings. Generally speaking, of course. Some cards perform better then others at certain games.

The GMA has its place for older games, but don't expect too much from it, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the input :) My wife just wanted to start getting into War FPSes and CoD2 is the first one that came to mind. I'll just have to dig up the older MoH games since that should be ok then, right?

Btw, I am loving CoD2 and Company of Heroes on my 7900GS :D

Will Civilization 4 run without problems with a GMA 950? I'm looking at the Dell E1405 with the 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo and Civ4 is pretty much the only game I play.

I used to play Civ 4 on my GMA 900 based laptop. It ran OK, not perfectly smooth but its a turn based game so you don't need high framerates for that. You should be alright (providing its supported by the drivers of course)

lol - Sure it might not be fair but I'm going to build a media center at home with mid/high range gaming capabilities...so if she really wants to play anything crazy, it'll be on our 50" DLP :D
