    Yeah what are you talking about? Is this not the same demo? There was never a mention of any other demo other than the Single Player demo which has a good chunk of the first level, it seems like it might be the whole first level.

    nah man, after playing the demo...on medium settings on my setup...this is the most amazing looking game I have seen, COD4 does look good but its nothing compared to Crysis.

    love the physics in the game, love killing people by throwing **** at them or throwing people at them lol.

    i want to get the full game now

    I'm running the game mostly on high with 3 options set to medium. Problem is it's at a lower than native resolution as well - 1440x900.

    That 8800m or whatever could not come sooner. My laptop *can* take future cards, right?

    No one knows if the 8800M will be made in MXM format. most MXM i see have been 7600 8600, so the mid range cards. 9600M will probably come in MXM

    Well if that's the case then I'll probably get a new rig and put my current HDD in there... if that's even possible.

    What the heck!!! I hate Vista!!! It closed the installation of the Crysis Demo! :mad:
    (this is what I got when I clicked for more information)
    "Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files.

    DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you."

    Yeah, don't think I'm getting crysis. Medium settings on 1024 x 768 doesnt look great for me either, and the gameplay is good but not great. Stickin with gears of war I suppose.

    WOW!! I have to run this game on Low settings at 1280x800 in order to get decent frames. After testing out my G1s, I ran across my brother's room and installed it on his "high end gaming rig" with 8800GTX. I was running the game average 20 fps on his rig at High settings and 4x AA. I can't believe how much details I was missing out on my G1s. The game looks simply amazing.

    Gears won't be much better as far as performance goes... more scalable, probably, but definitely at the cost of good visuals. Don't forget that it's an Xbox 360 port. You could try to play the "but these are the guys who made UT3!" card, but that game was developed first and foremost for the PC, and GOW was not.

    Gears will be somewhat more demanding than cod4 and I can run that fine at max settings with aa at 1680 x 1050. Though its the demo. Crysis scalable to 3 year old hardware? I don't think so Crytek. There will not be optimization between now and when it goes gold since it will within a week.

    I expect gears of war will be similar to bioshock. Bioshock was a 360 comparison and gears was originally designed for a high end pc then scaled down for 360.

    If gears runs like bioshock which is all high settings at 1280 x 1024 then I will be content.

    I'm getting 1024x768, with all medium settings, and averaging 30fps. Playable...yes. It still looks good to me though...so I might be picking this up permanently after I beat the demo.

    i can get the same results except when in firefights .. thats when i can't aim as good because the fps goes down, thus i'd rather play with a few low settings so i can get quick reaction. otherwise the koreans kick my butt because they seem like they have super powers when it comes to aiming

    hi. sorry if his doesn't deserve a post by itself but i was wondering about something.

    crysis does not make a shortcut on my desktop nor does it in my start menu. is this normal?

    the reason i ask is because a couple of games do the same thing.

    i am running vista 32. thanks.

    In vista, you can right click on the game icon in Games Explorer and choose Play Dx9 or Play DX10.

    OR

    You can add "-dx9" at the end of the Target line in shortcut properties.

    Will do sir! THx for the info.

    I'm gonna try a mix of medium and high using dx9 and overclock. Medium works fine now, im getting in the mid 20s averaging. 1024 x 768.

    Oh man runs much better. With dx9 I can run everything at high with smooth framerates at 1024 x 768.

    At 1280 x 800, mostly everything high except post processing is medium.
    Post processing is the biggest hit to fps for me.

    Still the game definitely needs some aa at those resolutions to look alot better but enabling them takes a huge hit to performance.

    In your opinion, is the game "prettier" at medium DX10 or high DX9 (both XGA) ?

    Hard call. I would have to say high dx9. I think once you set it to medium on dx10, it minimizes use of the extras anyways so you don't get as much as an effect. Everything high is gorgeous on DX10 but like 10-15 fps which is not playable.

    For those who cant get the console running could you try this

    First off the console can't be opened by pressing a combination of things I think, so say if you access the ~ key by pressing Shift + some key, dont, just press the "some key"

    On UK keyboards sometimes **** gets messed up

    The console is usually accessed by pressing the button on the left side of the number 1, not on the numpad but the number keys on top of the letter keys.

    Sometimes for me, such as in UT3 the console is accessed by pressing the second key on the right side of key L.

    In some other games i cant remember which the console is accesses by one of the three keys on the right side of L and before Enter key.

    Also its worth noting the above is on XP, when I was on Vista, I couldn't get the console to open no matter what key I pressed. Other people had this problem too and so far I haven't been able to find a solution. Note this is not a universal vista problem, most can access the console just fine, a few unlucky ones on vista cant at all.

    Hope this helped

    Im sorry about the r_driver=DX9 command

    I was getting my information from tweak guides author who is working on the crysis tweak guide but its not yet fully published on the site.

    To see his views these are the two threads

    http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?p=75390#post75390

    advanced tweaks

    http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?p=75415#post75415

    After re-reading the advanced tweaks, it is my bad about the r_driver=DX9 method

    In fact you are not supposed to enter this in the console, but rather in the System.cfg file

    If you then want to add/customize the commands in a personal config file, the way to do it is to create a file called System.cfg, and place it under your \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo directory. Now within this file, you can add various commands, for example if you want to keep your Post Processing at High in the game, but just disable motion blur, then enter the following in System.cfg:

    r_MotionBlur=0

    To run in dx9 under vista add

    r_driver=DX9

    source = tweakguides

    For those looking for an easier method just do this

    To run it in DX9 under Vista you just have to right-click to game icon, located in Vistas Game folder (under Music, Pictures etc). Then you get the option to start in DX9 or DX10.

    Soz for the trouble
