the issue i am having is that i have x2 graphics card, the basic HD and an exrta, the R9, however under device manager only the HD shows up. I updated the BIOS and still nothing. Nothing i run can detect the card
Windows 10 x64-bit
Alienware 17
i7-4910MQ
BIOS is A14
Motherboard: HM87

The M290X / AW17 is a single card, unless you mean the integrated graphics, in which case have you tried the newest Driver and Windows Updates? I see it's W10 and I don't know what ATi's Mobility status is for drivers on W10. I know NVidia's still having issues and their drivers are generally regarded as the superior ones, so what that means for ATI on W10... I have no idea.

I do have the integrated card which is the HD I believe, I have updated W10 and attempted to install the R9 driver via AMD site with still no luck.
I am still kind of new to these things. I am also running W7 on a separate HD. When i try to run the driver CD that came with my computer a lot of them says that it is not compatable. when i go through dell website to get the driver it doesn't even pick up the R9 to give me the option. -
Does your AW 17 have a hardware switch or can you turn on / off the VGA in BIOS?
-
I can switch it with the Fn+F5 which is my I/D GFX, when i do that and restart it acts all special with big icons and what not. The only other thing i could think of is i have it installed just the wrong driver which is why it is coming up as the HD instead of the R9
-
When you hit the button and it restarts and goes to the small resolution (big icons) can you install the AMD driver and see if it recognizes the card then?
-
How would I go about that or USB with driver on it and not to it?
-
Ok sounds like a dead card... Has it been working fine or it just suddenly disappeared? Is anything shown in the BIOS... You should have AMD GPU item there... Or was this a laptop you purchased and had this problem? Have you tried installing driver?
-
Here is a shot of my BIOS, I confirmed that it is an R9, i didn't notice it until after my W10 update. Think it is just an issue with the driver that got installed which is why it looks like just the HD. No big notice is graphics. I am going to run a bench for graphics and see what card it decided to use. I don't think it is a bad card, could be wrong though.

(Update) Here is something interesting I just found on http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R9-M290X.108643.0.html. "Its performance and feature set are identical to the HD 8970M, as the M290X shares the same core and features the same clock rates."

The M290X has a lot of potential. You can laugh at it all you want but i been modifying its vbios constantly and each modification surpassing the other. I know a lot of people can't afford better hardware but still. With all the additions of software like better drivers from AMD and Win10 update 1703 has vastly improved performance. These kind of benefits there's a lot to gain. I still can run lots of modern games with this M290X with high and some ultra settings with stable 60fps. If i'm able to accomplish this with just one card i can further gain more with two. I resurrected these with good intentions.
