This thread is an index of all the major threads that should answer most user's basic questions. Instead of having four or five stickies, it is simpler to have them all in one.

    General Overviews/Knowledge Articles

The Mobile Graphics Card Info Page
Covers mobile GPUs A to Z. Ranks cards in order of performance and has a basic Frequently Asked Questions section.

Well, the number of the posts eligible to become stickies finally passed 4 which was supposed to be the limit. So keeping the first 4 as stickies and not making the fifth a sticky was not justice.
Plus browsing the forums with a single sticky is much easier.
I have no objection whatsoever :)
I hope someone does this for the ASUS forum because the 7 stickies are driving me mad.

I think it's easier to find the relevant threads now. No one ever really looks at stickies, especially not if there are more than 3 of them. This way, you have one place to look if you need information about graphics/games/performance

(Ok, so I'm biased cos I suggested making this change... But I still think it's a good idea ;))

Having a centralised information page is a great idea to save time on browsing in a related topic. I haven't thougth about this idea though.

You can thank Jalf for this idea, he's the one who suggested it. :)

I'd be willing to take any suggestions for minor links to go into this sticky. I'll be adding a few I have in mind later on today.

Im looking for a laptop that can handle games to an ok standard. Im not looking to be bale to play the top end modern games that are being released but im looking to play games like Battlefield 2 to a good standard of gameplay. A laptop i have looked at has this graphics card in: nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8400M GS with 128MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory. Will this be able to handle the games i mentioned. The laptop also has 1gb RAM, Intel core 2 duo processor.

A list of games this setup could handle would be appreciated.

This would probably be best posted in the drivers thread, however, you can try the following driver:
    http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/169.09/169.09_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_beta.exe

Open the .exe, and have it extract the files to some folder on your desktop. The setup will fail, but that's okay. After it's exited, go into the folder with the extracted files, delete the file called "nv4_disp.inf." Then, download and extract the attached file, and cut and paste the INF file into your extracted driver folder (where you deleted the old INF file).

After that, you should be good to go.

Now that you mention it, Pulp's 6150 guide is getting a bit dated, I'm not sure new computers are offered anymore with that GPU. Several of the other threads regarding DX9.0c cards could be considered being removed in the near future as well.

    Hi
Im in the market for a new laptop. I came across a dilema. Im debating about either the sony fz or the dell m1530. the sony has a 8400m GT graphics card and the dell has a 8600M GT graphics card. Which one is better?
I will be playing games like crysis and COD4

Thank you all of you answers will be appreciated

For cyrsis and COD4 8600Gt will be the best but I do not think that the 8600GT will even run Cyrsis.

Not true. Both cards can run Crysis. 8600MGT DDR2 256MB can run Crysis (DX10) on 1280x800 with everything on VERY HIGH except shadow and shader on low, and the average frames is 15.

You have to take into consideration what people's definition of playable is. To me 15fps is not playable. For to make Crysis "playable" that is a no dips below 30 and hovering around 45fps most of the time, I have to play at the lowest resolution and everything on medium.

The 8400GT could probably get decent fps in Crysis at the lowest resolution with the lowest settings. I may be wrong, but playing a game anywhere below 20 isn't playable in my book

Slightly O/C'd 8600m GT here - runs Crysis with all on high, shadows on medium, shaders on low. Avg 32 FPS. Game is very playable in every respect so far.

1280x720, 30+ FPS most of the game except the end at medium settings (with performance tweaks and O/C). Realize that the game is still playable(20-30 FPS) at stock speeds and all medium settings at 1024x768. Go with the 8600m gt. as for COD4, I max it out and run it at 1280x800. it has no problem running at above 30 FPS nearly the entire game.
