    Hi,

I just bought a thinkpad r61 with duo 1.8ghz, 1gig of ram, and a gma x3100. Obviously not a gaming beast. I chose not to go with a high end gaming computer because that would run me at least a couple thousand, and with the extra I'll probably get a ps3.

I was wondering if I could run maybe flight sim x on medium, flight sim 04 on max settings, age of empires 3, the first brothers in arms, and maybe some other games.

I bought the thinkpad as a replacement to my 2004/2005 compaq with the radeon mobility 9000.

How would the x3100 compare to the very very very, old radeon mobility 9000?

I was pretty satisfied with the radeon 9000 for flight simulator 2004 on the compaq.

And please, give me some realistic expectations for the x3100. :)

I'll have to say no to all your questions,
can't play Flight X on med, can't max out any of the other games you listed,, probably not even close.
a laptop with nice or half decent graphics are not necessarily over 1000, look at the Dell Vostro series,

No, I must have not made myself clear, I expected to run only flight sim 04 max, which would make sense because I ran it with the radeon 9000 on around med with an old p4 2.6 ghz 512mb laptop. All the others I would think around med. Especillay older 2005 early 2006 games like brothers in arms and age of empires 3.

How would the old old radeon 9000 compare to the x3100?

Yes, the x3100 is way better than an ATI MR 9000. I had one of these on my old Compaq and I was not able to max out BF1942 1024x768 while a friend of mine had an intel GMA 950/945 or whatever it is and he was able to max it out at that resolution and have silky smooth gameplay. x3100 is better than the GMA so it's clearly better than the MR 9000.

One thing I'd like to mention is that the MR 9000 was one of the first mobile solutions to incorporate Hardware T&L and supported Shader 1.4. Because of this I was able to play BF2 on my laptop at all low settings compared to my friend with his GMA which was unable to run it at all.

Its not a gaming beast you are right, but you should be able to play everything you mentioned, if not at med, at least at low. Much better then the 9000.

Also getting a PS3 is probably a good call around now since the price was cut for awhile, and lots of stuff coming out for it soon.
