    Hey Guys,

RF Online, a new MMORPG came out yesterday and I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything on it.

    Or for that matter DDO?

I am thinking about picking it up, but I don't think I will if it is not worth playing.

    Thanks for the help guys.

i tried the japanese version when it was in open beta.. the game will (or already is) p2p (pay to play), it was originally f2p.

game is your typical mmorpg with a human, elf like and robot race and their respective classes. graphics are pretty good. haven't gotten too far to comment on the grinding, but there is one thing i disliked about the game..and that is the fact that you can't always run.. they have something like a stamina bar.

I can't comment on RFO but I played DDO for a bit in beta. It's a good game, not as addictive as some of the other MMOs out there (ie WOW). I really like how the dungeons are the focus of the game and they did a good job at making them very interactive. The game, however, is NOT solo friendly. You will be forced to group most of the game, but the game has a good group finding interface built in.

The game was a lot of fun to play. But I'm not sure if I'll be buying it. I liked it when I was playing it, but when I was not playing it I did not really miss it.

IMO ddo isnt what i like to call "great". I played the beta for it, and it kept my interest for about 2 hours. you are "forced" into groups the whole time you play, otherwise you will get swarmed with monsters and (unless you are expert at dodging) you will most likely die. (i loved the combat) the combat you click to attack, or you move out of the way to dodge, etc..BUT since it is based on D&D rules (obviously), even if you are close enough, you may or may not hit them according to your dice roll. the game is 100% instanced dungeons. every quest is another instance(3 settings..easy/norm/hard). key events are narrated (just as if a DM were reading it to you). the game has decent sound effects/music.the GUI to me was pretty close to wow/eq2, with the action bars (and their customizeability..not sure if that is a word). the game has nice graphics. if it were up to me,i would go with ffxi or wow or EQ2

RF online..havent heard much about it.

    hope this helps.

    pb,out.

Well right now I am playing WoW for the 2nd time. I have my last account to my friend while I was in school and stuff. Now I started again and it has the feeling of EQ when you start and everyone else is lvl 60. :(

I am like Lvl 27 on the Shadowmoon server. Which it takes forever to log on. :(

That is why I am looking for a temp MMO until they resolve the server issues.

well, i have played wow up to 53 (paladin..took **** near forever!), up to 1.8..1.9 came and i switched servers and started allllllllll over..just to play with my cousin and his friends...not im getting board, and im thinking of going back to ffxi...wow just doesnt hold its appeal to me any more. i log on..and its just so boring doing all the same quests/instances again and again (ive had many many toons..hehe)

ffxi is more group oriented, and is alot of fun when you get a static party....at times it can be a pain, but more then 90% of the time its hella fun.. especially with skill chains and exp chains rolling...ok enough now lol..

    hope this helps,
    pb,out.

p.s. there arent too many people who "know it all" before they play in ffxi..most people are willing to help, and can easily help you out..just dont beg. aside from that, the game is actually HARD..you will not reach level cap in 3 weeks..and you need to KNOW your class, ..and paladins ROCK in that game...uber tanks :)

I have played FF XI. I didn't like that as much, I don't know why, it is didn't feel like a game I liked.

I might try it again, but like you said, I don't really want to start over again. :)

i didnt mind starting over in D2X..it took maybe...4 hours to hits 70+ lol...in wow, it can take at least 2-3 weeks to hit the level cap...(lots of playing). ffxi is harder, but for me its worth it...because you actually earn your levels. when you turn in quests you dont get 4k exp out of your 30k bar for 5 minutes of running around.

    to each his own,

    pb,out.

I've been a big time WoW player up until the past month. Got a 60 warrior on the Kilrogg server. The end game of WoW is a different game than levels 1-59, I guess you could say it shines at level 60. I loved doing all the 5, 10 and 15 man instances at level 60. They are a ton of fun and can be quick if your group has them down (45mins for the 5 man stuff to 2 hours max for the 15 man stuff). It took me like 9 to 10 days played time (216 to 240 hours) to get everything I wanted after hitting 60 (besides the 40 man raid stuff), so their is a ton of stuff to do.

I quit because doing 4 hour long huge raids (MC and BWL) have very little appeal to me, at least at this point in my life. But WoW is a GREAT game at level 60 with tons of content even for the casual player. I’m sure I’ll start again once they introduce the new 5 man instances and set items in patch 1.10.

since we're on the subject of mmorpgs, here's some other ones that are free (i like them free ones :D)

Ragnarok: p2p, but private servers are free
Lineage 2: p2p, but private servers like L2extreme are free
Maple Story: free, 2-d Side scrolling mmorpg, very popular..but you'll either love it or hate it. is in the top 10 searches at gamefaqs.
Flyff: free, can fly on air boards after a certain level
    Rose Online: free, has vehicles
Silkroad Online: Free, pretty popular, set in China
Kal Online: similar to above, but in Korea

A couple of months ago, I stumbled on the Phillipines Beta for RF Online and signed up. I'm pretty sure that this has been a released game in Asia for some time now. It's basically like WoW but possibly not as slick. If you like the Japanese style cartoons or mangas, then you'll love the graphics in this game. There are 3 factions to choose from, the one I played had these cool mech-like robots. The graphics and sounds are excellent and the weapons look to be rather awesome!
I'm probably going to sign up and play the north American one now that it's released. Not sure how it's take off in light of WoW's success and the plethora of MMO's out at the moment. Hopefully, they'll get well populated servers, after all no MMO is fun without the Massively!!!

I've played ROSE Online and it was pretty addictive, and a great experience, but got boring fast.

I tried the beta tests for Guild Wars and that game was great, I don't know if it's free though.

I hate how you have to pay to play online after buying the game. This deters me from these games. I can't afford nor do I want to pay monthly fees to play a game that I may not play a lot during some periods of time.

I call games that you must play almost everyday for a few hours, SUMMER GAMES, when I have time and no school.

    Cheers,
    Mike
