I'm trying to find some games that fit into the RPG genre, but with good humor. I can't stand games that are too serious. One such example would be Oblivion. It's a great game don't get me wrong but I just couldn't get the fun factor out of it (although the necrophiliac is a nice comedic relief :D). Oblivion was a bit too gloom and doom for me =/.

I heard Fallout 3 has some decent humor in it, so I might get the game. I don't know many PC rpgs though, other than the oldies like Diablo, Baldur's Gate, games like that.

So anyone here can help? It'll be greatly appreciated :)

Well, just by the name of the topic I thought about fallout 3 ;). I don't remember the level of humor, but I do remember that for me it was much better than oblivion, which i couldn'T either get into the game... but fallout 3 is just amazing.

Hmm....humor really isn't in RPGs except for Fallout 3 as you mentioned.

Some games might be funny not because they're intended to be funny but because the plot or characters is so cliche or the voice acting is so awkward that it just makes you want to either cringe or start laughing.....but then, that is usually not a good thing.

Dungeon Siege was one of the games with the occasional funny dialogue... and Neverwinter Nights was lighter toned too. The best IMO would be Jrpgs, great stories with great humor, but they're never on PCs. From what I've seen, the DMC series has some light hearted humor too, I think..

Dungeon Runners. It's a free MMO. It is basically all a huge parody of MMOs, but still a good MMO.

Neverwinter Nights 2 can be funny at times... but only the original I think; not it's expansions.

An oldie but a goodie: Planescape Torment. Morte, a cynical skull-head NPC companion, is quite funny.

Also Baldur's Gate series w/ Minsc and his pet hamster Boo can often break the gameplay monotony, albeit with some decidely repetitive dialog.

But yeah, the really good one for wry humour is the Fallout series.

I actually found the Shivering Isles of Oblivion to be very funny. Sheogorath is a fun character, and so is He-Who-Runs-In-Circles, to name a couple.

Shivering Isles definitely has some good humor. A lot of Sheogoraths dialogue can be very funny, and a lot of other npcs and places have some humor thrown in as well

Wow...I can't believe I forgot about HK-47. He is arguably the funniest RPG character I have ever encountered. I highly recommend getting KOTOR or KOTOR2 as well (HK-47 is in both of them)

I've played through KOTOR already, and it was definitely one of the better RPGs I've played. Haven't played KOTOR 2 yet, but probably will sometime soon. Any more modern games? A lot of the games here are oldies that I've played through :p

Grandia 2 for the PC is a decent RPG with lots of humor in it. It's a very aged game, arriving on the PC scene in 2002. Gamespot gave it a good score back then in it's review of the game.

Edit: I'm tempted to see if this game runs on Windows 7. I'll check it out tonight.

Edit #2: The humor in the game is a bit on the child-ish side, but it's still fun to play. The combat system is very engaging in my view.

I would have to vote for Fallout 3 as well as I'm playing through it, if you wanna talk about a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, just look at the pictures they have in the game (for owners, I'm referring to that little character that shows up when you have a weapon highlighted, and pretty much everywhere else) , it's always this cartoonish looking guy holding up whatever weapon you highlight with a smile or other silly facial expression, and you get a robot butler too who has a conversation topic 'Tell me a joke' which I lol'ed at actually

In terms of lighter-hearted games with humour distributed throughout, you can't go past these three (possibly others, but if so, I forget)

Jade Empire (Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom The Magnificent B*stard - I lol'd so hard at that encounter)
    KOTOR 1&2 (HK-47 FTW)
    Neverwinter Nights 2

^^Seeing a theme here? I think Bioware's real strength is that they build/develop really strong and unique characters, and give you the option to put many of the best/funniest in your party as support characters, so you're more exposed to it. Makes the whole deal far more fun.

Fallout 1 & 2 has some fantastic dark humour, if you can deal with the combat system.

Have played all the major rpg's over the last close to 15 years and some not so major ones and Fallout's 1 and 2 , by far, exceed all others as far as humor !

The Bard's Tale. Basically a spoof on RPGs. The main character is even voiced by Cary Elwes. Got pretty good reviews and it's based around humor. Probably a little dated now since it was released in 05 in PC. Worth checking out and I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it yet.

Earthbound is the funniest RPG i've played to date. Doesn't really qualify for PC though, seeing as it's for SNES. (unless you use emulators)

Definitely worth a play through if you can get a copy!

Just a side note. NWN 2 was developed by Obsidian, not Bioware. Though Bioware did make the first NWN.

That said, i enjoyed NWN2, KOTOR and Oblivion. All have their own personal sense of humor. You just need to look out for it ;)

Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!

I'm going Fallout 1 & 2 as a LOT funnier than 3 but if you can't handle the graphics than go 3.

BUT if you're REALLY looking for a funny RPG that's old-school check out Dungeon Keeper 2

Dungeon Keeper 2 isn't really an RPG although it is a funny game.

I'd recommend Overlord and the recently released Overlord 2, but it's not really RPG in the traditional sense although the humour is there.

Seriously, try SAM & MAX-series. They just started releasing them as "seasons" (since each game is a 5-6 hour "episode"). These are old school point-and-click adventure games. Humor is guaranteed. :D
