I have some games in mind but I'm wondering if people have some additional suggestions. Normally I am not into violent games but I am seriously addicted to Oblivion right now, so I guess those are back on the table. That said, I'm not really into FPS games where the entire goal is to around killing as much as you can. The thing I like most about Oblivion is how much control the player has. Back in the day I used to really like the Myst series too, but haven't played them in years now. So.. with that in mind, what would you recommend? So far, people have recommended

    The Witcher
    Neverwinter Nights 2
    Age Of Conan
    Two Worlds
    WOW
    Fallout 3

I also really like Oblivion, I have it, but I'm putting off playing it fully till I get something with a good graphics card. Don't want to play it on very low, looks like crap. Still hard to not play it though. :D

I also have The Witcher, I heard that's great too, but you already have it on the list. There is one other famous one, Gothic 3 I think. Don't know how it is, never played it.

I have KOTOR 1 and 2 and heard they are great games...but havnt got around to playing them yet. Unfortunately, from what I hear I may never get to because I heard that Vista-64 wont run them. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks.....

Those three would do you fine for a long while. I excluded the mmo's you listed because not only do they cost a monthly fee to keep playing they WILL consume a lot of your time. And Age of Conan sucks. Out of the three selected I would recommend getting them all really.

You may want to consider giving King's Bounty: The Legend a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to download demos of the games that have them, and try to find cheap places to get the ones that don't.

Personally I like 2moons. It's one among countless free mmorpgs, which don't exactly have the best reputation in terms of storyline and gameplay, but somehow I've become somewhat addicted to it.

Fully agreed. Just bought it and played for a couple hours. So far a very good game. Also play KOTOR 1... it was SSSOOOOO good. 2 not so much.

I also enjoyed the witcher very much.

Someone mentioned Gothic 3, but I think Gothic 2 was a better game.

Also, if you don't mind using the wayback machine, I'd recommend the 3DO Might and Magic series of RPG's, I really enjoyed them. Also, Dungeon Siege I and II and expansions since no one has mentioned them yet. And maybe Syberia since you like RPG and adventure (Myst) type games. These are all older games, but good ones.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition ($37 at Amazon) might also be a good choice (others mentioned it, but the new enhanced release has some nice extras).

And, finally, check out gog.com, and a game there called "Sacrifice" which you might enjoy ($10). Gog sells "Great Old Games" cheap and you may find some other stuff there you like as well (like the AdventureSoft games).

A big virtue of some of these "classics" is that they run on nearly anything, they're cheap, and many are still great fun to play. You can find demos and reviews for them all and get a sense of what they're like before you buy.

    Cheers and Good gaming!

I completely agree. King's Bounty: The Legend is amazing (and there is a free demo for those who want to try it) and KOTOR 1 was also superb. These are two truly excellent games!

NWN 2 has such a good rep..maybe it's just me...but I just CANNOT seem to get used to the horrible camera angles...I find it so difficult to control where Im looking at times and where my party is going...someone ends up getting stuck in a corner or behind an object....it just seems to be so seriously flawed....

Mass Effect if you like sci-fi...
Jade Empire if you want something unique (and don't mind an XBox port)...

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 or Icewind Dale if you don't mind something a little older
Fallout 1 and 2 if you like the setting and don't mind somethig a little older

Bethesda and Bioware seem to be the last companies making high profile RPG releases that aren't MMORPGs...

At one time, RPGs ruled the PC scene...and along came FPSs to take over the PC, and Final Fantasy moved RPGs from the PC to the consoles...curse id for that Doom game...

I really prefer RPG's because I can find them much more enjoyable/engaging compared to FPS.
Mindless shooting without a decent story arc and puzzles that don't prompt you to think are a bit idiotic from my perspective.

    But, to each their own.

Man, I've played that for about 3 or so hours now. Just left the main Kingdom, so I guess part 3 (?) now.

I'm all about turn based games...have been since the original Eye of the Beholder stuff in 1990 or so. I just can't put my finger on it, but I'm not hooked on this game. It's almost like it's just drawing me in to find out what everyone likes about it so much. Whatever "IT" is, I haven't found it yet. But I intend to hit out about 10 or so hours to figure out what the attraction is.

if you didn"t play Deus Ex (the first one) is a very good game... it has the shooter type but really give it a try the stealth options are making it quite diversified

Bah, just get morrowind! It rules! :D

Oblivion is a great game but morrowind just feels like a far more open ended world. It's just better on every level. I'm sure most who have finished both will agree... holds breath

I would agree Morrowind is more interesting and expansive than Oblivion, but Oblivion has a much improved combat system.. and you do a lot of combat in these games!

I recommend Fallout 3, but then again I <3 FPS and RPGs. :D

Also, I like The Witcher, but the translation/voice over kinda bothers me, it's still cool though.
