Hi
I am sorry if this thread is present somwhr but the search function isnt working right now.
I wanted to ask how many people here play games like oblivion, DS2, aoe3 etc online and where do they play it?
1.are there any free such meeting places?
2.how Nd which games do u play online along with unknown players? how much do you pay for it ? (per year)
3. What is the kind of speed i will need if i want to join you? I can afford to pay $10-12 per year as a subscription fees for online rpg servers and access to similar players.
I am from India and there isnt much culture of playing games online(we play on LAN but not internet) in our country so my questions might sound a lil silly to u. pls excuse.

Well games like those aren't really heavily played online.
If you are looking for online playing where you will meet new people all the time you have a great chance of doing so with First person shooters, such as Call of Duty 4, and Counter Strike: Source
generally if you like RTS's then a great place to look would be Starcraft and World Craft 3.
If you are looking for MMORPG (Sorta like oblivion with ALOT of people) then games like WoW- World of Warcraft would be a good example.
It was kinda hard to read what you were looking for. but i hope that helps. -
@Vash thanks for the info. But, I was interested in knowing where can i meet people and how do i come to know which server/IP to connect?
Basically, i wanted something like a chatting room, except here we play games instead of chatting. I see a lot of people play games like never winter nights, diablo, so they must be playing as a team somewhere. I wanted to knw the above details for such a place.
I know, i dont make much sense right now. But hopefully i will get a better idea of things thru this thread, and will be able to ask more meaningful questions then

The matchmaking client (the service you use to get into multiplayer) should be built into the games you are trying to play. You just have to click on the "Multiplayer" option in the main menu and click "Internet" or something like that. It may require you to setup an account to play, but that should be all you need to do.
Big central matchmaking services like Heat.net have somewhat died out to the individual services provided by publishers or individual games. Blizzard uses Battle.net for all of its games except WoW. Valve games like Half-Life just use the Steam server browser.
In other words, jump into your game of choice, open up the multiplayer option, do any registering it asks you to do, and you'll be dropped into a chat room with other players. -
I am in the process of correcting one mistake on DS2, I keep getting an error and I have contacted the developer regarding the same. They have told me that it will take a week and they will courier me a new key.
I wanted some place where I can play for a week.

I mostly see NWN being played among groups of friends, much like an online D&D game. I know DS2/DS1 is played online, but I haven't personally gone on. From what I've been told, some servers are basically for leveling up.
-
Can i join in or is it a personal server of some kind?
-
@dtwn are u part of such a group??
-
Not for the DS games, but I do know that there are servers you can just join.
-
Should i pm u for details or is it possible for you to share them here??

This is the only place I found with a DS server. It's DS1 I think. You might want to try the gaspowergames site.
For NWN 1/2, check http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/ out.
Oh, and I meant you should be able to find servers, not that I knew exactly where to find them. -
thanks a lot i will try to find other servers as well and update this thread in case anybody else is interested
