    Hey guys!
Ever since I played Final Fantasy XII (ps2) I've been looking for a RPG alike; with a rich and deep story, attractive characters, and "tropical-ish" setting. I love games with carribean locations, such as Crysis'. Vibrant and happy colours make me happy :) Nowadays most of the RPG's have a dark and sinister setting, and usually are war-related (Fallout 3, etc). I'm not a high graphic demanding guy, the best looking game I've played is exactly FF XII . (Yeah, laugh :O) Still, I recently got a new notebook and I want to squeeze all the power it has regarding graphics (HD 4670). So, do you guys now any RPG that matches what I'm looking for, or I'm just being too picky?

    Thanks in advance!
    Martin

The only thing "caribbean" that comes to mind is Far Cry, but that's far from an RPG. Far Cry 2 a little more so, but it's not really based in the Caribbean.

On the PC? That's a tough call, really. PC RPGs that come to North America are almost always Western-style RPGs. Most of the final fantasy games have been ported to PC, however, so that's as good a place to start as any. You might also try Anachronox - its Sci-fi, but has a light-hearted look and feel.

Oh! It doesn't have to be IN the caribbean only. What I was trying to say is that I'd like a game with a sunny, ocean-ish setting, as opposed to depressed and dark ones :) FF XII had both elements thougth, still, vibrant, saturated and "tropical" locations predominated.

As a side note, all my desktop backagrounds have been beaches, Caribbean places, Survivor Islands, etc. I guess I really do like this things lol.

If you're looking for some good RPGs (better story than graphics), I'll point out The Legend of Dragoon (PS1), Chrono Cross (PS1), Dragon Warrior VII (PS1) Super Adventure Island II (SNES) and Super Mario RPG (SNES). I don't know if they're exactly what you're looking for but these are the ones that really stood out in my childhood. They're so good in fact that I'm starting to go back and play them again. You may need to emulate a few of these but I won't go into that here, forum rules and all.

Perhaps you'd like to take a look at Last Remnant?

Great choices guys. I'll definitively look on Last Remnant (looks fascinanting so far) and the ps1 titles. I own a ps1 in fact, played some great titles like FF IX. Oh, and Anachronox is well worth researching too!

    +1 for this recommendation.

Very fun game, though the story could have been explained better. It has a different way of managing battles and leveling up. Make sure to get the PC version, though, so you can have armies of unique leaders.

On a side note, I really should stay away from RPGs. I consume way to much time stat-grinding.

Yeap have to agree the last remnant is a solid choice, theres a short review in my sig with screen shots.
Also take a look at either titanquest or sacred2 as both are colourful and not to serious in nature (also have reviews of both in my sig.)

I came in to recommend The Last Remnant, but I see I'm not the only one who likes it. I'm not even halfway through, but I really enjoy the combat.

There's even a benchmark demo you can download first, to see how it'll run on your PC.

The 4670 should have zero problems running the game maxed out.

Also, if you like DD, you can find it on Steam.

    Phantasy Star Online Universe

It has an offline mode with full fledged story, plays like zelda + final fantasy kinda and its a really good game.

I was really addicted the the online play, better than Wow to me, but the one player story alone made the game worth the buy. You can probably find it dirt cheap now.

    width='425' height='344'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yNFsJ7iCMGk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yNFsJ7iCMGk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height='344'></embed></object>

Lots of green areas, but good variety depending on what part of the game your in, you can be in a temple, the desert, etc.

Risen is a new RPG that came out recently and has decent reviews. It also has a tropical setting, jungles, beaches, etc which Im sure the OP would like to take a look at

Wow people, you've shocked me. Tons of options to choose off! Thanks :) I think I'll stick with The Last Remnant and Mass Effect for now (space theme intrigued me), thought I've made a list with almost all the games you've mentioned and I plan on playing them once I finish the ones I'm buying first (that sounded weird ;S). Thanks again notyou, me12345, htwingnut, Consecrated, Mortis, ViciousXUSMC, JohnnyFlash, Kevin Jack2.0, Forge, mtness, AznMetalHead and SmidgenPC for your contribution! *gets some air*

Given you own a PS1 i would be looking towards FF7/8/9, Front Mission 3, Chrono Cross/Trigger, Vagrant Story. The GFX may not be great but you won't beat them for gameplay.

PC wise i would be looking towards what has already been suggested, Last Remnent and Mass Effect, for a cheap fix Jade Empire can normally be picked up in the bargain bin and has a good few hours of gameplay, Fable Lost Chapters can normally be picked up cheap also for the PC.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It has varying weather, so it can be bright, vibrant and sunny, or dark and stormy. And it's a damn fun game, especially with all the expansions.

Guess I won't be coming of my room for a while :D I own several PS1 and PS2 games as well, such as FFVIII, FFVI, FFX, Rogue Galaxy, Tales of the Abyss (Tales of Symphonia on my GameCube) and several others. Guess I am a RPG fan-ish person haha :D Can't wait for buying some pc titles!

I loved FFIX, it was my first and still favorite Final Fantasy, although a lot of people don't like it for reasons that I can't understand :p

Maybe it was cause FFIX was a more lighthearted and happy medieval story than a futuristic apocalyptic story like the earlier 7 and 8

Second that. And there are a number of texture replacers available at Planet Elder Scrolls or The Elder Scroll Nexus that can change the mood of the game with brighter landscapes and architecture.

You can always grap Pcsx2 (the best Ps2 emulator out there) and play some of (your) original ps2 RPGs....which are the best of their kind

    Thats what i do

    Usually PC-RPGs are crap!!...My opinion

Grandia is for PC too, but good luck trying to find it :p

Oblivion is generic, unoriginal and cliche in absolutely every respect; story, characters, themes, etc. It may look pretty, but it lacks substance.

Go for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 (when they release it in January).

If you're worried about Oblivion's generic setting, just pick up Morrowind. That was an AMAZING game. It looks old these days, but the graphical flair means it looks better than you'd expect.

Hmmm, how about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It should be very cheap now so it is worth a try as you won't feel too hard done by if you don't like it.

However it does have great charactirisation, good storyline and you get to go to various different places, some are pretty vibrant.

You can always emulate a PS2 in your laptop (as I do) and play Final Fantasy X, it has a richier story (much richier), it's overall better and much more colorful ambients.

Also you might like Valkyrie Profile but you need serious power to emulate that correctly (3.6Ghz maybe). Be sure to check out pcsx2!

I love medieval games. Another RPG to try out is the Witcher: Enhanced Edition.
