I am looking forward to playing some RTS' on my lappy with GMA X3100.

I am a big Generals fan and was wondering which of the new breed of RTSes would work on a Core 2 Duo with GMA X3100.

well RTS's are generally more CPU bound, so a core 2 will be more than enough.

try dawn of war:dark crusade, age of empires, maybe universe at war....not sure about supreme commander tho i dont own it or have evr played it.

they will run probably at lowest settings on low res's just so you know.

I don't think Dawn of War : Dark Crusade is playable with that GPU, but let's wait for input from more people. And, you can play Warcraft III if you like that game.

Dawn of war: winter assault is playable. Runs much better under Software Mode. If you don't know how to run games in SW mode with the x3100, just search these forums for how to Force SW mode with the x3100.

I said new RTS's not warcraft 3 or RA2. Those will work even on a pentium 3.

as long as the grpahics settings are low he will have no problem....i dont have an X3100 but I have a P4 1.7 gig and it is the complete and utter bottleneck in my system for everything.

When you scan your mouse over the GFX settings for dawn of war, it tells you what the setting is most dependant on, and most of them are soley the CPU or include that a more powerful cpu is needed to turn it up.

on low resolutions on lowest settings i think it will be playable, someone who has one correct me if im wrong.

Dawn of War will definitely work fine. A friend plays it fine on low settings 800x600 on his GMA950, and word of mouth says that it'll run at mid-high in SP mode on the X3100.

Nothing later than Dawn of War I should think, the X3100 isn't on the supported list of many new games although that won't necessarily guarantee that the games won't function at lowest settings and resolution.

I played C&C 3 and C&C Generals on a Radeon Xpress 1100 no issues. So X3100 should be even better. Anything pre 2005 should work just fine (for RTS's)

Rome: Total War might work. Try to download the demo, and bear in mind that the demo isn't very optimised, the full game runs a lot faster (about a 10fps increase).

I am not sure about this however, has anyone tried it?

It's one of the best RTS games of all time, so you really shouldn't miss it. Hopefully Starcraft 2 will be well optimised when it comes out.
