I'm looking at buying the dm3z or UL80VT-A1. They both have switchable graphics. The dm3z has switchable between the HD3200 and HD 4330. The UL80VT-A1 has switchable between the Intel 4500 and the Nvidia 210M.

I'm not sure if either of pairs of graphics cards are going to be able to do Hybrid SLI/Crossfire to boost performance. If they can, it would probably boose the dm3z's performance more since it could also take advantage of the additional power of the HD 3200 compared to the X4500.

Which laptop is going to be more powerful graphics wise? I'm personally thinking the 210M by a good measure (maybe 20 percent?). What 3DMark06 score do you guys forsee for these? I don't think we even have official benchmarks for them yet? Maybe for the 4330... not sure. It would be great if you guys could find some. I've looked myself but failed to come up with anything.

What CPU is in the UL80VT-A1? The Turion Neo x2 1.6 GHz you have to get to get the Radeon 4330 option in the HP isn't anything to write home about but would do fine for most games, since the Radeon 4330 would be a more limiting factor anyways. Honestly I see the HP being a better machine for gaming purposes (oh such irony in the statement), but the other machine probably will run a bit faster since it has a low speed Core 2 Duo in it IIRC. It's always kind of funny how fast the Radeon 43xx and 45xx family of GPUs really are. Though I must exclaim how nice and powerful the dm3z is for the price point. You can get it configured with the best processor, Radeon 4330, 4 GB DDR2, and 320 GB HDD for under $800, which is a pretty good deal for an ultra portable lappy with some decent gaming capabilities.

if u're looking for performance.. the DM3z would be much better performer than the U81.. however it will also have less battery life.. i would personally get a DM3z as i nver want a laptop with crap intel graphics.

Come on guys... think... think... (i'm just giving you a hard time, no hard feelings, okay?) lol

But yeah, like I said, the UL80VT-A1 comes with the Nvidia 210M, not just the Intel 4500. lol :)

My understanding is that the UL80VT-A1's SU7300 processor is going to have identical if not slightly better performance compared to the Neo X2 in the dm3z. The real question is which GPU is more powerful....

So ... I just found a review on the Asus UL80VT-A1. The results are in: UL80VT-A1 got a 3460 in 3DMark06 and the 4330 gets around 2500, which places the UL80VT-A1 with the 210M at about 40% faster. Plus the UL80VT-A1 has a 12 hour battery... man... I'm so all over it...

The 4330 has the same no. of shaders as G210M but G210M is higher clocked.

Keep in mind the UL80Vt also has a "Turbo" mode for the CPU, overclocking it from 1.3GHz --> 1.73GHz.

The HD 4570 DDR2 is on par with the Nvidia G210M. It should be an OK performer according to the spec sheet but nothing to write home about. The G210M should definitely be better than the HD 4330 regardless of the CPU.

If you wait a week I'll have a review of the UL80Vt-A1 up.

I never really heard of the GT210 until recently. Sounds like Nvidia desperate attempt to take on the 4570. It also seems like the successor to the G105(Already?)

Both, actually. Though don't ask me if I'm good at either of them. ;)

I plan to run a variety of gaming benchmarks on the UL80Vt-A1, and whatever doesn't fit in the review I may post in the forums.

The 210M and the 105M supposedly came out at the same time last year, but we just haven't see the 210M be used in a laptop yet.
