Depends on the game but IMO the 480 is still better.

So many 7970M vs threads. Next thing you know you'll see a 7970M vs GTX 690.

But I don't see how the GTX 480 (desktop) is better than the 7970M. The GTX 480 was one of the worst designed GPUs in recent years and is slower than the GTX 570, which the 7970M is as fast as.

Yes 7970m is faster then the Gtx 480 which is also slower then the 570(which 7970m is faster)

It is on par actually but OC'ing potential will give the 7970M better performance than an OC'ed 570. Drivers on the other hand still cripple's the 7970M's full potential.

7970m should be faster. The 7970m is an under clocked desktop 7870 which is quite a bit faster than the 480

Just remember that benchmarks sometimes don't reflect actual gameplay fps for certain games.

But for 3DMark 11, 7970M is better than the GTX 480, and even the GTX 570 which was mentioned above.

We also have to keep in mind that currently, there is 0 driver support for 7970m, so the raw numbers some people are getting now are probably at a minimum or medium of what the card is capable of.
Of course, we will have to wait and see for full driver release and then we can make proper comparisons, but it does bode well for the possibility that the 7970m with proper drivers might see a decent increase in raw performance.

The HD7970M should faster than the GTX480 since it's basically a desktop HD7870 with HD7850 clocks (should be a little below GTX570).

It'll probably need a couple more driver revisions before it brings out its full power though.
