I was looking around Newegg and I noticed some laptop for a really good price with the Radeon HD 3650.

However, for this model it says the graphic card is only a 512mb of vram. While other versions seems to be 1gb like.

Is there a difference between them? Is one really 1gb while the other is 512mb?

And also is that Toshiba laptop a good deal for its price?
P.S. Is the HD3650 better or 8600M GT or 9500M GS?

I was looking at both of these laptops and was wondering the same thing. I was leaning towards the Asus(only due to the 1gig of video memory), but I'd prefer the bigger screen. (The funny thing was that I was about to post a thread identical to this one.)

I'm looking at the very same laptops right now. if the 3650 is gddr3 would that make it faster than the 8600 gddr3?

Well is there a big difference between those two types of HD 3650 graphics card?

And if there is what is it? Is it possible that the 1gb could be DDR2 while the 512 could be DDR3?

Weither it's DDR2 or GDDR3, it can only use 256MB of effective RAM....

    In both case it's ~ 8600M GT DDR2

    HD 3650= 55nm HD 2600

So does the 1gb HD 3650 have that much of difference from the 512mb HD 3650?

you can OC this card, and no one knows how long a card will last with or without overclock, either way it'll be time to upgrade by the time it dies. The 1gb would be beneficial since it would load textures into memory at once instead of in the middle of the game causing less lag.

And as to 3650 vs 8600, they are about the same level of performance. Its all up to you to choose the vendor (ati or nvidia).

512 is more than enough for a hd 3650/2600. a gig is just a waste of memory chips.

Definitaly got for the gddr3 version. Gddr2 is slow and sucks. Those mobile card don't need 1024 mb of ram. Heck they dont even need 512mb since they get bottlenecked by their shaders and memory bus.
