am looking at buying an HP G62t with these specs:

    i3-370m
    4gb (1DIMM)..easier to upgrade to 8GB
    250GB HDD blah blah blah

My question is about the GPU

When customizing this laptop on the HP site, I am given the choice between Intel HD graphics(pretty crappy), 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics, or 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics.

I am confused because I thought that the HD 5470 was an integrated unit.
By the way, I am a casual gamer, this laptop will mostly be used for Office software, photoshop and programming, with some mildly-tasking gaming. (Left4Dead2 etc.)

So if anybody can clear this GPU issue up for me that'd be great, Thanks.

As far as I know it isn't available as integrated, double checked. The extra vram MIGHT come in handy with certain things like video editing and photoshop. But i cant see any games this card can actually handle needing the space. It is possible just less likely. So if the ram will save u money, might go for it, but also check as the 5470 can use a couple of types, the 1GB could also be faster GDDR5 versus DDR3.

Taking a leap here since i havent kept up, but I think 5165 or worse is the integrated chip for amd notebooks based on what im seeing on their site.

EDIT - Looks like a 50 dollar difference, if u end up needing the vram, it would have been worth it but if not id save it and spend elsewhere. Seems like a decent price on this, until u hit about 750 you dont get into anything great in the gaming segment anyways.

EDIT 2 - Seriously save the 50 and spend 65 on the i5, id have no regrets If not then an HDD upgrade, looks like their offering the 320 up from the 250 for free though, not enough for me.
