IMO, RAGE is just another generic shoot em up FPS.
I think the real advantage of RAGE is the new engine, that will be available for other game devs to implement into future games. -
RAGE is here to show us some sweet OpenGL graphics (Dx9 for older comps) and also give us a hint on what Doom 4 might look like.
I got it on preorder on Steam so i cant wait to test it out. -
someone else???
-
What sucks is my laptop uses only the IGP for OpenGL and DirectX 9 performance is significantly worse than DirectX 10 or 11. Although I am greatly anticipating Doom 4, I may hold off on Rage until I get some feedback and it drops in price.
-
Surprised there's not more interest on here about this game... Looks pretty cool. It's currently pre-loading on Steam. Thinking about picking it up.
On a side note, it seems I remember reading something about this game that made me not want it at some point, but upon further research it looks pretty good... there's not any weird DRM or anything is there? Appears to have a decent singleplayer story, and that's always my main draw to a game. -
Meh, another postapocalyptic shooter. The dune buggy aspect doesn't intrigue me.
-
One of my most anticipated games of the year.
-
Damn Steam preloaded 21GB of RAGE. xD
Now i only gotta wait until Friday for it to unlock. -

Looks pretty generic. There are so many overlapping titles being released that it's easy to totally ignore major AAA releases. Single player shooter would need something pretty epic to draw me in. Competition among people tends to be more varied and interesting.
-
I'm interested in this game, but with BF3 launching I think I can afford to wait a few months and hope for some possible sales.
-
It looks so similar to Borderlands, but without the loot.
I'll wait for Borderlands 2. -
Here is a nice demo of the game. Not sure if I want it or not yet. Will wait for reviews/experiences. But this demo definitely made it look more fun than I previously thought it to be.
Gasmespot Rage Demo. -
wait what? its 20 gigs? why is it that big for just a generic fps..
-
-
Its even this big or even bigger on the Xbox 360 and PS3 version or so i heard. -

I wouldn't call megatexturing new. Virtual texturing is what you're talking about. Megatexturing is just using a BIG scalable texture instead of repeating smaller tiles.
-
Just too bad Rage too so long to develop. People saying this game looks generic, another post apocalypic etc. Rage development started before Borderlands and other games I believe. ID Software is like Blizzard hopefully. So when the game is released, hopefully Rage will be perfection. It's been in development long enough, over half a decade it seems.
-
Have they said why the game is 20GB?

Blizzard basically puts their efforts into gameplay, balance, story, and a very small number of intellectual properties, with relatively simple graphics. Their games don't sell because of the graphics, so if they take an extra 2 years to get out their game, it won't make much of a difference.
Basically, 3d graphics are moving forward at an extremely fast pace, iD or no iD. Gameplay innovation is much slower. Blizzard can afford to take their time more than iD.
Rage looks outdated, maybe average. Gameplay wise, you're looking at a single player FPS without anything else interesting to hold it up. This type of game has been done to death. -
All righty masternegative.
I still look forward to Rage, love ID games. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
it's just my opinion. I'm sure it'll be fun. A lot of this is thinking back to doom 3 and quake 4. They looked good when they were released, and were pretty much generic shooters. The graphics were good enough at the time that it hardly mattered.

I hope its not boring as it is big. I loved Borderlands, but i lost interest in it pretty quickly because is too much co-op oriented and noone of my friends had it, so i left it behind.
If they managed to put in Rage the same single player feel of Fallout 3/NV or Oblivion, its definitely a must buy for me. -
I read this from another forum... Should be interesting to see what happens.
"Ya Carmack confirmed it.
During the Keynote, Carmack also stressed a number of times that the PC version would possibly get a "super quality texture pack" to fix low-resolution(blurry) textures that Rage suffers at the shipping dataset which is identical to console counterparts. He admitted that artists were sad because a combination of multiple professional compression solutions necessary to fit the ~150 GB internal build to a shippable product of 25 GB, on three dual-layer DVDs or one single-layer BD."Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Is this going to have full-on co-op like borderlands did? I heard that it's only a few levels that will be co-opable. Looking for something to fill the gap between borderlands and borderlands 2
-
I've been looking forward for this game. But to be honest, I actually forgot about it for a while until I looked at the release date. This game isn't really getting a lot of PR marketing.
-
i read that game is so bad port!!!texture flickering everywhere and low performance....so sad..

Nvidia users arent having problems, beside an occasional texture popup issue. The real problem here seems Ati users with AMD BF3 drivers.
As ID already tweeted:
Rage, ATI, and the Battlefield 3 Beta Don't Mix
Remember that ATI is still having a poor, very poor OpenGL engine compared to Nvidia. Same thing happened with brink.
I hope they fix it soon. -
Guess im okay, since i have a "AMD" Radeon HD & Catalyst 11.9 WHQL.
Damn it, y u no friday yet? -

Hopefully my trusty Nvidia card will be ok -
how is this game? was thinking of picking it up.
-
Will let you know after installation.............3 hrs and still waiting on Steam update !
-
Just started playing, running perfect at 1080p 60fps on my rig, some textures aren't great, but overall it looks good, and hopefully there be a patch released for better textures.
Off to play
-
anyone tried the amd rage performance driver????
AMD Catalyst? - Rage Performance Driver
edit:does the driver works with laptop cards or only desktop??? -
Looks pretty lousy on my system. Even though it's Nvidia, I'm getting Guiness world record texture pop in. Completely unoptimized, imho. I've even cranked down the rezz, and the framerate is still uneven as hell, and the pop in still THE worst I've ever seen in a game!
The Witcher 2 looks and runs great, and even Crysis/Crysis 2.
Rage?? very 'meh' so far.
After completing the first mission, I've already turned it off. Wish Dark Souls would've arrived today instead of this... Guess we'll see how much support Id/Nvidia give this game in better optimizing it for the PC crowd. Sad day when a brand new Id game looks better on my stinking Xbox. -
From the Asus section on NBR:
-
Ok, went to the Bethesda official Rage forums, and found the current fix for Nvidia based systems.
This is what I did:
Just thought I'd pass the info along. -
i need to unistall my old 11.9 drivers or i can install them without unistall the previous one??thx!!

If I manage to get a copy of the game I'll do a little first impressions review and test the game for multi monitor support.

It looks great. I don't know, though, the whole thing just seems like a huge tech demo.

AMD forced to send down someone with their own computer to try and make it work
-
I just saw a video of it. Are they serious with that texture popping? I thought it was like, you're walking and distant textures are popping in, not "everything in the room is untextured until you look at it for a quarter second". Ridiculous.

The texture pop in is caused by Rage using zero VRAM, there is a temp fix for it going around, you make a .cfg file and place it in the base folder of Rage with the changes making the game utilize VRAM, works well, at least it did for me. Makes Rage playable, that texture pop in was just brutal, never saw anything like that, funny how John Carmack regrets the console first choice now.
