Wow, after seeing these images and trailer this is shaping up to be another amazing Post-Apocalyptic game:

I've been keeping an eye on Rage. They hadn't released much media prior to this new stuff, and it looks even more amazing now. I don't think we'll see Rage until late next year though.

The thing that stuns me, is that second to last screenshot^^^^
I think thats actually a gameplay shotThis game is gonna be demanding im SO sure.
-
Well, it is the next evolution of ID's tech engine, it's going to be ridiculously amazing. Doom 3 was a monster for sure, but ID are pros at optimization, and it was playable with the ol' 6800's from the era. And now that I think about it, 2010 is a bit optimistic... ID will take their sweet time on this one.
-
I lol'd at the title cause fallout IS boring. anywho this game looks like alot of fun, ive been watching it for a few weeks
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
You are right though ID always makes fantastic games and this will be just as good as anything prior. Its great to here about the new engine they have always been VERY good at character models
Josh, lol i enjoyed fallout but it was pretty slow pace so i could see who people wouldnt like it. -
Is this supposed to be an rpg?
OT: Red, are you stalking Jessica Nigri? -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Yup this looks great. Everything Fallout 3 should have been imo. But that's because I am an FPS junky, not an RPG junky I guess. Nonetheless this will be awesome.
-
Whow those screens do look amazing, you have perked my interest in the game, thanks.
-
I have been looking for this too, but by the time it comes out, i suggest you take a look at borderlands, which is supposed to come out in october, in my opinion it will be AWESOME
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Thund3rBall, i cant wait for this. It seems like a mix of Fallout, Far Cry 2, and Jack and Daxter.
Mtness,Yeah those screen are amazing the new engine must be something else.
Frank, I heard of borderlands but so far i am feeling this more. Im pretty sure both will be aewsome though. -
I don't like the direction Borderlands is taking (cartoonish looks, rpg elements such as experience points, amongst other things). Still waiting on them to release new info about Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Been looking at this since last year. Watched Carmacks talk about id recently and I think this will be a game worth getting. I wonder when we'll get Doom 4 though. -
I've been following Rage a bit too, and it looks like a good combination of genres. However, any more I never put too much faith in a game that isn't due to be released for many months down the road. If they said it would be out November 2009, then I'd be excited.
-
I've been following Rage as often as I can. The trailers and screenshots never seem to disappoint and look better as time goes along. Furthermore, id says they're going to make it centered around fun because they want a new franchise. Many of id's previous games were fun tech-demos, but I think they intend for this to be a fun game, that looks as good as a tech-demo. I can't wait to play it, I just hope it scales down as well as they claim (I don't have a good graphics card).

-
First time I have seen screen shots of the game and It looks fantastic.
If it plays half as good as it looks we have a winner! -
Let's just hope it's not as bad an actual game as Doom 3.
-

Lol ^^^^
This game is way too open out to be like Doom(Which was pretty linear) Im sure this will make people forget about Doom.
Im happy to see ID make a new franchise though they are to talented to be stuck on one. -

*drool* look at the clouds and the cliffs, so... glorious...

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing

I think Oblivion did it right with horses, I don't know why they fell short in Fallout, there is plenty of cars and motorcycles everywhere that don't look too destroyed.

The decision to leave operational vehicles out of Fallout 3 was likely schemed as a feature worth promoting as a new feature in a Fallout 4 sequel, even though you had the ability of using an upgradeable car in Fallout 2. -
-
You can always tell an iD engine.
It reminds me of that old old game (2000-ish?) where you primarily drove an armored vehicle around but could get out to clear out building, trade and get missions, in a post-apocalyptic setting (result of chemical warfare instead of nuclear, I think. There were untouched places surrounded by domes where rich people lived, but most of the world was a wasteland). -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
JB,....................I know, i just dont get it is that hard to just add a vehicle into the game? The only recent game that i can think of, that really gave you a open ended world with the ability to drive around was Mercenaries 2.
Raduque, ................Twisted Metal? Hm, Spy Hunter? Fallout?(Old ones) -
I seem to recall the menus being very blue and red colored. I also want to say the name had the word "Red" in it, too. -
I don't know the details very well... is rage a sandbox game or what?
-
I wonder what it would take to run this game on a notebook. I think someone mentioned id are good at optimization or something. Can anyone elaborate on this?
Are we looking at 9600GT-level GPUs and above, or will entry-level HD4330/9400m kind of graphics performance be enough? Their engine uses OpenGL a lot so i'm assuming no DX10/10.1/11 support, right? -

This game may be out spring time next year(I hope)
Borderlands is the one to watch...............only for now though. If i had to choose between both i tihnk i would go with Rage without second thoughts. -
It will be Open GL, DX11 is out of the question. It looks comparable to DX10 though, with use of motion blur, depth of field, softer shadows. It will be a shader rocking title, and I don't think 8800 GTs (equivalent to the current high end mobile GPUs) will be running this on high, err ultra.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
^^^ IT will probably support Physx then?
-
I don't know if physx is bound by directX at all. ID may have their own phsyics engine altogether. I'll look up some info on their previous 4th engine (used in doom 3, quake 4, new wolfenstein).
EDIT: it's definitely not havok, it's proprietary. ID has Crytek square in their sights on this oneBut they can't help the fact the human eye just finds a tropical paradise full of vegetation more appealing than a drab brown post-apocalptic grand canyon with scary clowns

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol like the thing eh?
I wonder if you would be able to create your own character?(Like Fallout) -
That would be awesome if it applied to your vehicle too (aesthetically). It has RPG elements so I don't see why not. Also, according to previews, the character you play is said to be nameless and not talk in the game. Not sure how customizable you get to be though.
Not sure about the PhysX thing either. It does look better than most DX9 games though doesn't it. Could probably even run it on XP too if you wanted. But yeah, might need a new notebook to run this (with a mobile G300). -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
I agree, the minute i saw this i was thinking DX10 but i guess not......
-
o.0 isn't Fallout always so damn boring. I freakin' gave that game away to som1. Hate the game. Love the concept. I hear ID makes great engines (doom 3). Will look out for this game from now on.

Rage looks very interesting. I have been following it since it was announced. I don't think id Tech 5 will be "Holy graphics!!!" (despite the screenshots), as Carmack seemed to hint at that in his keynote during QuakeCon last week. By that, I mean you won't be required to buy an entire new desktop/notebook just to play it on medium or high, like you would have with their previous radical engines like Doom 3 or Quake 3. You have to keep in mind that they are making this for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as well. Though I have no doubt that if you really want to, you could absolutely blast the graphics just to demonstrate that your computer just isn't powerful enough to take Rage at full blast immediately.
As for PhysX, it seemed to me again that Carmack doesn't particularly like the idea of hardware physics (GPU PhysX or dedicated Ageia PhysX card). So I think we won't get PhysX, which is fine by me.
Any id Tech engine upon initial public release is incredibly buggy, but they release patches very quickly. Severe issues are resolved fast. They do optimize it as best they can, but the best way they can avoid huge problems is with public betas before releasing it. I really hope a public multiplayer beta of Rage is released a month in advance of its retail release. That way we'll get less bugs when it's released, and we will be able to play it early. Yay! -
