I have scoured the steam forums for a solution, but have yet to find one...

With the laptop in my sig (Envy15 w/ HD5830m), I get random crashes (game freezes - Windows produces a crash report) due to "atioglxx.dll" I've tried launch options, custom cfg files and placing different versions of atioglxx.dll in the rage directory. Nothing works for me. I resorted to removing the game and am now downloading it, again. Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it?

What drivers are you using? I don't have the game, but I know that the latest few versions of the ATI drivers have had Rage and OpenGL performance fixes in them.

I'm on 12.1-preview...I'll check my OpenGL version in the morning (getting ready for bed, now - I know, I'm old)

STOP playing this game. Its garbage, you will spend more time trying to fix it than playing it. i got to paly through it just once, before STEAM and their so called fixes ruined the game. I deleted it from my PC and broke the CD. 60$ wasted.

Do internet search nothing but problems, and if you use amd cards its even worse.

Id really bit off more than they could chew, then dropped the ball here, and I wonder if their studio will be facing some bleak times soon. I know the pubs were mad about the Rage release, and supposedly, that is why Doom 4 is being "Indefinitely Postponed".

AMD Catalyst 12.2 Preview is the newest driver around, and should work with RAGE.
I stopped playing that game until its patched up.

The problem is not the game itself, it's AMD with his drivers.
Althought the game has been built around GeForce features such gpu transcoding (cuda parallel processing).
It's just another game in the long list of worst performance on AMD hardware.
That's was one of the reason why I've sold my crossfire setup.

my cousin with 6990m xfire has the same problem. in the green side after the 2nd patch rage runs near perfect and more stable in 16xaa.

what patch do you use? can you enable the gpu transcode option? whenever i try to enable gpu transcode it will indicate 'not enough memory or incompatible hardware' which is really strange because of the release version of rage i could enable gpu transcode (although honestly there's no help), in the 1st patch transcode was omitted in the menu (added vsync, texture cache, anisotropic filter), but then in the 2nd patch included texture detail and gpu transcode option was back although i can't enable it.

my current OpenGL version is 6.14.10.11400

i had 12.1 official drivers installed and the game stuttered horribly. so i did some research and found 12.2-preview but then i read this -> http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst122Previewdriverrreleasenotes.aspx

the release notes state that Rage users should keep 12.1a preview drivers. So, that's what I installed.

and now, after typing this out i just realized i have 12.1-preview drivers and not 12.1a-preview...man this is really hard to keep track of

ok, i'm going to try the 12.1a-preview and see how that works. of course i still have to wait another 3 days, or so, for rage to download...

EDIT: just installed 12.1a-preview and my OpenGL version is now 6.14.10.11414. maybe that will do something.

ok...i got Rage redownloaded/installed and using the 12.1a-preview drivers (OpenGL 6.14.10.11414) got me a few more minutes before atioglxx.dll crashed the game, again. wonderful.

i think i'm going to do like DEagleson, and wait until it's patched properly.

You should seriously send that DVD to ID and tell them why...
