Hey guys, I got a gift-card for Best-Buy from a friend, and have to use it.
Many months ago, I said I disliked Crysis. Well, I tried out on my friend's computer, and liked it.
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, I heard that co-op is fun with friends, and the realistic and intense firefights are fun as well.
Was wondering which to get.
Hope you can help me.

Co-op is pretty fun, especially in terrorist hunt mode because it's insanely hard

thanks for your contribution. It really does look appealing. I've never played the rainbow 6 series to be honest.
-
In the long run Crysis is worth it, but I suggest you get Rainbow 6 when it is a lot cheaper. Also, this rainbow 6 is different from the other ones in that it is more run and gun than tactical.
-
Crysis ... crysis .. crysis , this could go on forever.
I think the only reason people didn't like it was just that thier computers couldn't play it well.
You NEED to play the game on atleast high graphics, especially on the physics settings to actually enjoy it. The game is increadibly fun, but short.
But when you complete the single player, there is a vast multiplayer mode that is very well done. And never gets boring if you play the power struggle mode.
Also, if you like BF2142's "Titan" mode, then you'll love powerstruggle since it's basically the same thing, just in crysis and better balanced because everyone starts off with equal amounts of everything.
Yes, R6 vegas 2 is fun, but if you've played the first R6 vegas than it's nothing new to you. And will get repetitive quickly as it doesn't really add anything new. -
Assuming that your computer can run Crysis with enjoyable settings reasonably, the graphics still will not make up for the fact that underneath the prettiness, Crysis is a pretty lackluster game. I'm currently playing R6V2 now, and I think it's a lot better.
Of worthy mention is that Crysis also has the sandbox editor where you can mess around with the physics engine and render videos with it, while you will not find that kind of feature in R6. -

I personally find Crysis to be just a pretty face. It looked amazing but the story was too short and multiplayer was no fun. I played vegas on the pc and i loves vegas 2 on the consoles so I'd definitely go for vegas 2. I'm planning on getting it once I tire of CoD4.
-
Crysis is shallow compared to RS:V 2. I just started playing it, but it if far more fun than crysis was, plus it runs better for the graphics you get.
-
If you can run Crysis on high (8800+) I would suggest that. I know there is the argument that good graphics can't make up for bad gameplay but after playing it on very high on a 24" monitor I beg to differ.

My GPU is an ATi Mobility HD 2600 XT.
I have a 24" iMac... It reads as HD 2600 Pro in the Mac OS X system, but in windows, it reads as ATi Mobility HD 2600 XT.
I have 4 gb of RAM, with an Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.8ghz processor. -
I doubt you can run either games nicely with HD2600 XT.
I played vegas 1 on macbook pro for 10 minutes a year ago, give me seriously headache then i never touched it again. -

I played Battlefield 2142 maxed out at 1600x1200, with no AA on and COD 4, maxed out at 1280x1024, no AA on.

I think that RS: V 2 is optimized better than the first.

I would only get Crysis if you have at least 9600GT/8800GT and play in Very High Settings. The graphics and gameplay are transformed into almost a totally different game. I was really quite in awe at how far graphics have come. Gameplay wise its not too bad but the multiplayer won`t be as popular.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was my choice however as the gameplay is more fun and you and your friends can get down and dirty with all the co-op and multiplayer options. The graphics are well optimised and look well refined too. -

I heartily recommend Rainbow Six Vegas 2. If you enjoyed the entireity of the first one, you can appreciate that it's basically just a refined, full-length expansion pack. I don't really have a problem with that, I loved the crap out of the first one. I loved it so much I bought copies for all my friends to do multiplayer. Co-op terrorist hunts were brief (we suck) but highly entertaining.
Crysis, on the other hand, the hater-haters always think the reason people like me don't like it is because it runs like crap even on modern hardware. And while that's true - overshooting the way it did was an asinine thing to do - I personally just don't like it because I don't feel like it's the great leap over Far Cry the developers wanted us to think it was, and more than that, I downright hate the story/flavor of the game.
My disdain for the gung ho American pandering coupled with the unspeakably overt racism is well documented on these forums. -
In my opinion, they are both pretty crappy.
Go with Crysis if all you care about is eye candy. It's lack of a decent storyline and terrible online play will really turn you off though.
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is ported over better then the first, but it's still not there. I don't think I'll buy another RS game for PC. They're just not what they used to be. However, if your comp can run it, go for RS:V2 I guess... -
The whole "UN" type feel too it makes it less intrusive than other "patriotic" type games that usually force you to play the "good and righteous" side. usually indicating without any compromise, that the otherside is all "bad and evil".
One example I give is the campaign mode of World in Conflict. I found it a big disappointment when I found there was no campaign from the Soviet or Chinese side. Although I have seen the console side will have soviet campaigns.
Letting players choose their side has been done before, like Command and Conquer Generals which actually did this quite well. Of course most FPS games need a enemy to shoot at, so something has to be demonized in the process.
It`s nothing really new but if we talk about in a sense about games being focused from the point of view from only one superpower than this may change in the future with what we are seeing in the Asia region. Althrough this doesn`t mean the new superpower will be different from the last. -
My recommandation would be R6.
I've played through Crysis and while the graphics where good, there is not much more to it.
R6 has a better story, better mp, the graphic is more than good enough and u dont have to have a supercomputer to run it properly.
For the moment I also enjoy Assasins Creed and an hour or so every other day on CoD4 mp. -

I do not own a rig powerful enough to run R6V2 nor have I played it but coming from a line of reviews from console gamers, the game has the same graphics as R6V and new gameplay features only include few things such as new guns, maps, and the whole new EXP (ACES).
-
Ha Ha, this thread needs to be open only to those with those with computers that can actually run Crysis at decent settings...
-
if your computer can run crysis at medium-high setting, go for crysis
you'll be blown away by the graphics.. otherwise, go for R6V2 - great gameplay and pretty good graphics

Well, I don't have those high end graphics. I only have an ATi HD 2600 XT. It plays any games on high except crysis.
