This is a dude, who hasn't had a brilliant idea since Ultima. Really he hasn't designed a good game since it was pen paper...
His last awesome flop was Tabula Rasa, which NCSoft fired him for and believed he didn't deserve any shares of the company for wasting their time and money.
- BTW Tabula Rasa means blank slate, turns out, that's what the game was, it was nothing.
Anyway, I only ask, because I know Richard Garriott thinks you're worthless in comparison to him. No one is better than him when it comes to game design. No one has an original or good idea for games since his Ultima.
How many of you paid for his kickstarter game, Shroud of the Suck, Shroud of let's make a game that looks worse than an indie game from 10 years ago?
- This game truly takes the cake for Kickstarter abuse and laugh at the chumps. Richard Garriott paid 30 million dollars to go to space with the Russians. And he needs Kickstarter to make a Shroud of the Suck Indie game that looks like it was developed 10 years ago? Wow, just wow.
Richard Garriott on why "most game designers really just suck" | News | PC Gamer
- If you are a game designer or aspiring to be one. Just have a laugh, cause Garriott thinks you suck.
- You think that headline was just for PCGamer to get views? Maybe, but it's an actual quote from the pompous Lord of I will reminisce about 30 years ago forever.
PCGamer also responds to Garriott running back with tail between his tail, trying to save face after insulting every game designer out there. I never liked Garriott. He was always a pompous arrogant jerk. Anyone who goes around calling himself Lord British in my opinion goes in the garbage bin labeled, pompous (British favorite insult, you know what it is).

I like him. He's a legend in the RPG world. I can't wait to check out Shroud of the Avatar. I think you need to take a deep breath and relax. You're acting like Richard Garriott insulted your mother and slapped your sister.

You should actually read the article before putting words in his mouth. A lot of the points he makes about game designers are spot on.
And the reason he did the Kickstarter wasn't because he needed the money, but because he wanted to get the fans involved in the design process. He is currently taking feedback from Kickstarter and implementing different ideas based on the feedback people have given. How terrible of him. -
- Garriott seems to forget games that are successful are because they give what gamers want. Not to inflate his own ego.
Despite my rants about other games, I sure as heck think that those game designers are far better than pompous arrogant designer who took his ideas from D&D. That's what it really is, this guy thinks he's amazing because he stole his gameplay ideas from D&D? Again, that's hilarious.
A REAL LORD BRITISH, would humbly accept the adulation from his fans and congratulate the designers who were inspired by him to be successful in the gaming industry. And then graciously take his leave, since it is clearly evident, he doesn't have what it takes to design a successful RPG in this era to compete with Witcher 3 or Dragon Age 3 or whatever other new awesome RPG title to come. Instead, he says the process of how those games are made and the designers suck... Please... that's awesome, hilarious. -
This has to be the best thread ever.
He doesn't need the money..
1. Kickstarter is hot
2. It's about marketing
3. It's about getting the crowd involved
