Hey you guys,
I suppose everybody knows of the petition that's going on, where people complain about D3's art direction, wanting the graphics to be more dark and gothic-looking. They've got a lot of signatures, view it here.
Well, I just stumbled upon another petition which praises the D3 development team for a great job, because it must really suck to develop a game this long in secrecy only to get bashed when you introduce what I think will be the game of the year when it comes out.
TheVede @ TheNextBench writes:
I've signed it, and if you feel that Diablo III is just great the way it is, and you really appreciate what the Devs did, please sign it too!
Here it is: http://www.petitiononline.com/d3israd/petition.html

Anyone that signed that first petition is the epitome of an "American Ass." I could go into a huge rant and will if one of those idiots or someone in agreement with them posts here, but how can someone be so spoiled that they think 4 years of work should be thrown away because its not dark enough in their opinion. What do you guys think 2 weeks before some rich fool sues blizzard?
25000 vs 64, its a sad day. -
I don't see the problem. The game is not some sort of hobby, that the developers make purely out of love. It is there to make money, and if a significant amount of people will be turned off by the game and not buy it, because of this, Blizzard should reconsider their stance on their art direction.
The actual gameplay looks awesome, but making the graphics a replica of warcraft is completely uninspired. The only real thing, I feel they need to change, is the color palette. It should be darker.
I doubt they will do it though. The amount of new players that will buy the game just because it is an unatmospheric warcraft replica, is greater than the ones that won't in protest over the game is not true to the series.
I will definantly buy it btw. Not enough to hold me back -

I think that it is simply easier to achieve that darker atmospheric look in 2d than it is when everything is in 3d. It might look at little more like WoW because of the lower poly count on monsters and stuff because there will probably be a lot of action going on. It might be "cartoony" but at least its stylized, which in my opinion, is better than bland looking Oblivion.

That other petition is so stupid. The thing is is that Diablo 2 was really quite a phenomenon. People love it so much, and it seems that because of that they are expecting D3 to be exactly like it. I don't know about the people who sign that petition, but I don't just want Diablo 2 with a new paint job. I want them to make a whole new game with Diablo 3. Diablo 1 & 2 were vastly different, and I think that's awesome. I want to play something NEW, and yet the same - if you know what I mean. I love the new art direction and I'm sure Blizzard will deliver a fantastic experience with Diablo 3. It will not be Diablo 2 though, and many people will be upset with that.

I got so sick of drab and dark Diablo 2. Thank god they are improving (read: adding) the color palette with Diablo 3. How do they at all look like WoW graphics? Even with the added colors, everything is desaturated and has some sort of post processing that pulls it right back into Gothic style.
Reactionary fools. HAVE YOU NO STYLE!?

I think both petitions are stupid, if the game developers want appreciation all they need to do is finish the game to their satisfaction and give it a proper release. They'll get their kudos when the consumers lap up their product in droves and everything else will fall in place from there.

^ couldnt have said it better myself

I think they are doing a great job with Diablo 3. If any petition has any effect so that they change the art, then I would be greatly disappointed. Just let them do their thing, Blizzard is known for quality.
