It's a nice concept... but I doubt it'll have success unless it has a decent price tag and a good battery life. The idea is great imo, but I'm sceptical.
-
ooooooh looks and sounds sexy
-
This looks like a really cool concept, but market viability for a product seems extremely low, unless they can sell it in a < $300 price point I really don't see this product ever coming to life. Despite how much I wish it would.
-
Will come in handy on a plane.
-
wow is all i can say. very interesting but i guess it will come with a nifty price tag if razer mice are anything to go by.
-
I dunno. The concept is sort of cool I guess. It's hard to get excited with small netbooks like the m11x and macbook air already out on the market though.
-
i think this one will stand out though as the keys are adaptable to each game you play. but 7" hmm, maybe not
-
Small portable mouse into the USB, right?
-
there is no way it will cost close to $300 when they sell $100 gaming mice.
Also, on their site they say some of the following about it:
"...with this newest incarnation of the Atom, Intel has made strides to modify the architecture to significantly increase the speed of the integrated graphics engine and enhance video performance, making it the best solution for gaming on the solution for gaming on the go. Experience this, with the Razer™ Switchblade."
and
"Q: When and where can I buy the Razer™ Switchblade?
A: The Razer™ Switchblade is a concept design (think of it like a concept car) and will not be made available for purchase - yet. Razer will be working with selected partners to design and launch products based off the Razer™ Switchblade concept design. We will be announcing more information shortly so sign up on the registration page to get the news first."

If it really works i'd get it only if it's below 600 <.<

Just to clarify, you will NOT be able to play WoW on that thing. Leveling, sure. But if you intend on doing dungeons and raids, good luck, because you will NOT be able to see everything thats going on. The concept is good, but unless the screen is FHD its gonna be ridiculous to try to play shooters and stuff on it. For WoW though, you seriously are gonna need at least a 15" screen to be able to raid effectively. Theres just always so much stuff going on.

I think it's a silly idea. An M11x is already small enough, and I doubt that thing even has enough keys for a lot of games. A 7" screen is going to be ridiculously small, and how can it be called a "gaming machine" when the current netbooks struggle with flash media? -

This thing is full of want. With the Intel Atom processor, this could be around $600. That would work, and would probably sell a lot of Razer wireless mouses. I need this tomorrow... or by the end of the year. Please, Razer.
-
This is nothing new. I believe alot of cell phone companies and even Nvidia already have prototypes of something similar or even smaller, that have just the same "wow" factor as this. Although I don't think this will be anymore powerful than what the competition has, the marketing video of the keyboard was done well.
-
Should have went AMD Zacate.

Just hope that lower screen is pretty durable because I know a lot of people, myself included that tend to push or slam pretty hard on the keys during a heated game.

Unless it's very cheap, which it should be due to it's netbook innards, then this thing will be a failure.
I personally think it's a useless concept. Netbooks and gaming really aren't two things that should be mentioned in the same sentence and now that Razer is trying to essentially create a gaming purposed netbook just makes me shudder. -

I'd say it's going to fail miserably.
Cool gadget? Yes
Practical? No
Let's take a look at your market here:
Traveling businessmen with enough money and space to carry this and their work notebook?
It's not strong enough to run high end games.....
For the same price range (300-600) you can get a netbook that can do all this and more...
The keys are a great idea but the concept as it currently exists isn't viable. -
I think the tech for just a USB keyboard would be much better. I know there was a keyboard once where each individual key was an LED LCD, although exhorbitantly expensive. But this idea cheapens it quite a bit. Great concept. I would buy a desktop keyboard like that or even have the tech in a laptop if they offered it for a reasonable cost.
Here it is: Optimus Maximus - $2400.

I think this is in a class of its own. It's also more "gaming tablet" then it is "gaming netbook."
-
I like the changing keyboard. Anyone know what gpu its going to use? I doubt it can handle anything higher than wow or dota like the clip showed.
-
At best, probably a low end dedicated GPU. Most probably an integrated GPU I'd say.

It runs on Atom... this thing may play SNES emulators lol but not any real PC games, WoW for instance that they are actively advertising with it would crush this machine.
The keyboard is still a keyboard it just lights up with pretty pictures.
Plus didnt I only see 1 usb port on there? I really hope not. -

The pictures seem to show them playin dota on it?

i think its more of just the idea of a company like razer being able to bring something like this out. I remember thinking having its own line of laptops would be a really really great thing for the laptop biz. Just like the alienware mobility line razer could have something like this, big glowing razer insignia glowing green on back i remember thinking. Other companys like roccat could do the same thing, be cool...

Razor brought in some guys from OQO (look them up if you don't know, it was a very interesting company), so hopefully they're serious. I still want an OQO Model 02+... but this fills the void x5.

GMA 600 is supposed to be 400Mhz, up from the 200MHz from Z500, it should get 2X performance of Z500 which is still crap lol (from 100->200 marks in 3DM06, AWESOME 200% INCREASE)
Given the driver sucked on 500 I guess it could be the same for 600, btw GMA 500 can play 1080P on Atom Z 1.33Ghz quite ok if you got the right driver version and software (POT player is the one that got GMA 500 H/W acceleration working) -
Nice Idea, I think we will eventually make our way for consoles to something that can pack massive power, can play on the bus, or dock and have a home console experience aswell. I would just hate to see the network data plan bill that comes out of this thing though. I know games can crunch some serious data consuming numbers and if your not anywere near a wifi zone you'd be boned. Plust speeds of other players getting high ping jumping around the screen is a tad bit annoying. I know most games now-a-days require a connection quicker than 56k phone line because of the difference between slow and quick players, it would be like controllers vs mice.
-
Actually games don't consume that much data to be honest. Most important to have good ping, but even 768k DSL is way more than adequate, if it even exists any more. Months that I do little to no movie streaming or downloads, my total internet useage is less than 10GB.

Oh well I guess it's safe to assume it's using some form of Intel IGP which means as a gaming machine, it's going to probably suck for anything beyond WoW at very low settings or maybe Quake Live. They should've just went for an AMD APU.
