Edit
Why didn't i get anything through the forum search?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, i'm sorry if not.;;
If you don't know what i'm talking about; Home | Razer Switchblade | Razer | For Gamers by Gamers
Anyway, i'm really interested if it's really possible for a small thing as the switchblade to actually play games...
Let's see... tiny display on all keyboard keys? check.
Multi-touch screen? check.
USB 3.0? check.
Nearly pocket size? check.
Windows 7? check.
Able to run games? che-wait...
AFAIK netbooks can't really play games very well. But if netbooks can't, how can something that's a half of their size? And this is just a prototype.
It's advertised as a "revolution in pc gaming", but i don't think it's so much of a revolution if you're going to play Doom on it.
But then again, i'm no expert with things like this.
Surely it'll probably play games, but are you restricted to the games from years and years past?

Well its using an Atom cpu, they are not very strong, they cant even really run flash on the web.
I have no idea what the GPU is yet but I know it wont be very strong.
The idea of a netbook is that its small, lightweight, portable, and CHEAP
I had two Asus EEE 1000H netbooks, and they were very handy.
Now I have a feeling this is little more than a netbook with the Razer flair added to make it cost 3x more. The big ooo wow point being the keyboard, but honestly does that matter?
How many people here look at there keyboard every time they press a key in game? Even if you did, does it matter that it has a little picture with an up arrow instead of saying "w" that you know is the up key?
The M11X is still king of ultra portable gaming IMO and this is not going to really be a important product. But nobody said they were making them anyways its just a prototype, thus I think it was just for show "look what we can do" no "expect this on the store shelves sometime soon" -
Disclaimer: Laptop is only capable of having WoW streamed to it so you can use the magical button screen....thing. -

WoW is actually quite demanding these days with the expansions bringing respectable gaming laptops to their knees.

tiny display on keyboard keys = more expensive, not important
usb 3.0 = more expensive, not helping game performance
nearly pocket size = not pocket size
multi touch screen = not relevant for aaa pc titles, more expensive
...
i'm not saying it's bad, but its concept hardware, it's going to cost a boat load, it will be able to play games at low settings / resolution, and a lot of the functionality described isn't directly relevant towards using the thing as a gaming device. USB 3.0 external mouse? kinda pointless. -

Practically speaking, it's probably aimed at being a portable console for light flash games, nothing more.

You would need hardware acceleration, or perhaps a dual core atom could pull it off. -
why not go for a laptop that can be used to play games? a gaming device that can't be used as a full laptop seems rather pointless to me

Mobility has always been a factor with PC gaming. Ofcourse, we have portable systems, but it's not really mobile, and this is the issue that manufacturers are trying to solve. Alienware M11x probably started of with something similar in size, but it had to bulk up to accomodate more powerful hardware that could push modern game software. This Razor prototype is fanatastic, although I doubt it's ready for primetime, until we have more powerful CPUs and GPUs that are small enough to make it run games like Metro 2033. At least it's good to know manufacturers are working around the clock tryiing to bring us a true mobile PC gaming experience.

Does it have the 460M GTX or 5850M inside? else with Intel HD GFX, forget it, planning on doing a crysis run on it.
Hint *Its says Razer Partner with INTEL for the switchblade.
So time to lower expectations~Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
They don't have any good screenshots of a newer game. That notebook cannot handle heavy games. And if you are going to look at the keyboard and its own features the customer needs to download their perspective key settings to see the icons etc. Hassle.
That notebook will be expensive for sure, yet not dependable. Just to impress people. -
one thing that is painfully obvious is battery life. as far as I recall number crunching gpu's and modern game serviceable cpu's tend to suck the juice a bit. Something with the thickness of 2 ipods slapped together, with all the lcd's and tech behind it, is not gonna be very miserly.

its gonna be a bust until they change the processor to a more powerfull one(amd and intel are going to release some good ones for netbooks I believe).

Just get an Optimus Maximus. You won't have to wait.
Razer Switchblade too good to be true?
