I have the opportunity to upgrade from an NC8430 with the ATI Radeon 256mb x1600 graphics to the new 8510w with the 256mb Nvidia Quadro 570m. I'm seeing 3dmark 06 scores of about 1700 for the nc 8430 and 3700 for the 570m. I keep hearing the quadro's are not gaming cards but it seems this would be a good upgrade. Or would this not be a good upgrade since it's a Quadro (not sure if there are any real world performance issues).

I will use this for work as well and with our HP discount can upgrade to this for about $400 to the model with a higher processor T7500, 2GB memory (1dimm), BlueRay, 120GB 7200rpm drive.

Right now I have the T7200 process, 2GB memory, DVDRW, 100GB 5400rpm drive. Plus I'd love to have HDMI, I have 2 hdmi tv sets and one would be perfect to use with the notebook when I'm working from home.

How would the BlueRay quality be on a 1080i tv compared to a standard BlueRay player?

the blueray quality of your laptop on your laptop screen vs a standard bluray player on a 1080i tv?

it depends on what you consider quality. the small laptop screen can display all of the quality (1080p) of blueray IF you have a 1920x1200 screen. either way, its a progressive image, so fast motion will be more clear. but on the other hand, you TV is likely a lot larger and that does add to the experience.

its very subjective. even if you laptop wasn't 1920x1200 I would still say its subjective. basically, its progressive image (laptop) versus screen size (TV)

The 570m is a 8600M GT with GDDR3 (I dont think there is a 570m with GDDR2 but I am not sure) and the scores show this as expected. Some games might have problems with the Quadro drivers. 3dMark does not but some games might and this will not be a high priority thing to be fixed either by nvidia or the game publisher. So yeah it performce well but is not a gameing card.

I'd definitely say wait until the 8510p get some benchmarks and a gaming review somewhere. The 8510w's GPU commands a higher price than it is worth for consumers if you ask me...unless the HD 2600 falls flat on its butt.

When are the 8510p's suppose to ship? I need to have it shipped by the end of the month to take advantage of this deal. I'm selling my current system for $1000 and buying this new one at 40% of reseller cost (about $1500 for the 8510w config). I only have till the end of the month to use this discount.

    What would you do?
